Getting cool here, by the look of things. This little baby has settled in behind one of the refreshments fridges on the deck. We normally have four pythons come in from the cold each year to hibernate in the ceiling of the granny flat. Last year, however, they made quite a mess so I recently blocked their access. I'm hoping the others will find a similar position to this one, somewhere.

I have 3x chest freezers in my laundry that I deliberately pull away from the wall in winter so that my pythons have somewhere warm to snuggle up during winter

Where would they normally hibernate in the wild?

FNQ but for travel restrictions, remember!

Hollow logs, rocky outcrops. During a nice, sunny, winters day, ours will lie along a branch or maybe up on the corro roof. They do get harassed a bit by the local feathered folk though, when in the open.

During the televised coverage of the fires over here we saw a lot about the cute and cuddly critters like Koala and such. I was also saddened by the inevitable impact on the snakes and lizards you guys have plenty of. Little televised here about those. Would the reptilians have had the nous to head for non-flammable cover in the fires? How do they behave in those situations? As much as I am glad we do not have them here, I think they're pretty interesting animals.

One expert estimate is thst over a billion animals died during the bushfires, so I'd say the answer to your question is probably no.

No forseeable rain here for the next week or so and the temps are back up to the mid to high 20's again So I am back to hand watering the veggie patch again.

Forecast here is 20-30% chance of rain over the weekend rising to 80% on Tues-Wed, so I hope that happens as we have enough empty tanks for about 25,000 litres of water which it would be good to fill soon.

Wow, DM! Not being a smart arse but, after the rain in February, if you have used 25,000 litres of water over 3 months, that's a lot of water, around 270 litres per day, compared to our usage (and I don't think I'm smelly). Presently, both our 22000 litre tanks are 5 rungs down from the top.
Perhaps your tanks weren't chockers, to start with?
Link shows how much the average 'Townie' uses. People on tanks are known to be a lot more sparing with their use of water. No 10 minute showers etc.
