One of my brothers had a different idea, after he lost his license for 12 months.

We went to the auction and picked up an old Posties step through,i think a Honda 50,from my (poor) memory.

Anyway,he road that around for the 12 months.
He was studying at Qld Uni,used to ride from my parents at Daisy Hill,to Uni and back most days, probably something like a 50K round trip at least. And used it on the weekends.

I think the new or rather in vogue wooden cutlery is hopeless, especially the forks they are blunt and when any pressure is put on them they just break. I think it is a giant step backwards in civilisation, and just one step away from getting a stick out the garden to eat with. Actually 2 steps, in between would be whittling one's own cutlery like a hillbilly.

I have 2 beautiful knives , coated in spoof oil...(if you've been in the services , you'll know what I mean)...and wrapped and sealed.

One is a 6" Joseph Rogers bowie knife , the other a 2 1/2" Solingen Hollow ground surgical steel "buffaloe skinner".

Exceptionally good knives , will probably never ever be used again , I used them out bush for years when one could carry them without being arrested.

    What happened to hunting?

Makes me grumpy I couldn't teach my sons.

We always carried a Sheath Knife even in Public & on Trams & Buses in a leather sheath or a Folding Clasp Knife on a Lanyard, Whittingslowe 1573/ SA made, usually from Army disposals.

Don't recall ever remember getting some weird looks of horror & suspicion of running amok.

Never felt any antagonism towards any fellow passengers or pedestrians. It was part of the kit/uniform of the time, besides you never knew when you would be needed to tie up a stray dog or horse or put an Eye splice on summat.

How would we be expected to do our one good Deed for the day, today? Help li'l old ladies across the street, but then some woke clown would complain that we were patronising?

    But not today hey?

    rb, nice knives you've got.

My gun belt was as Bob would know was the swiss cheese plus of Army Knifes. Pussers Dirk, a Spike and knife so sharp you could shave with it. A Multitude of every item a seaman could carry Des It did not have a gun at all

I made and sold them to the others for a few $. Honestly a bit of leather and a sharp knife was a time passed very nicely under the stars or sun a long way from any where Who said I was a (UC) Useless ****

One of the very wizened, local cockies from here was stopped by security, at a larger shopping centre because he had the typical cockie's belt with stitched in knife holder. He had to leave the knife in his vehicle.
    Cocky was very perplexed, apparently.

Ever since I moved bush, about 1988, I carried a 6.5 inch folding knife on my belt.
Used to get on airplanes with it & go everywhere with it.
One day in the late 90's I was getting on a plane back to Doomadgee in Cairns & they took the knife off me.
I was very miffed & had to pay to have it put in a special bag in the cargo bay.
Still have the knife though I don't wear it anymore, now it is a Leatherman which I also have to remember to take off & put in my bag before flights.
I have been pulled up in Cairns for the Leatherman as well, being from Doomadgee gets me out of trouble, Doomadgee must have a reputation?

BTW in 1993 I flew from Cairns to Doomadgee with a 308 & .22 Hornet in gun bags propped up against the window of the plane where I was sitting.
    Try that today!
