Was on the bank the other day attempting to find out why I had gone into overdraft when had paid funds in a couple of day’s ago to cover what was expected to go out. Seems the in an hour faster payment had taken 3 days to reach my account! At least it was only the bank dipping into my account not something more serious which was what I was worried about.

While waiting in the queue had someone come up and suggest I could use one of the machines to do my banking. Not really going to work in this case. Pointed out that this was the last bank branch around here as they had closed all the others within about 30 miles. If we did not use the human ‘machines’ this one would be closed as well. Did not seem to understand what I meant?

I make a point of acknowledging the human 'touch' every time I go to my local branch, even when when they try to get me to use a f...n machine to do a simple transaction.

The staff do simple stuff for me that they're not really supposed to do, kinda like what they did all day long in days of yore.

This bank is in the frame (not the worst) for fee charging for no service (no effect on me) but they are really good when they have the human touch. I let them know.

What’s a bank? Haven’t set foot inside one for at least 15 years.

You'd have to claim such, considering your avatar.

Proven to be quite incorrect actually. Cashier jobs have increased year on year. Persons monitoring the Self Service depending on number of units can exceed the number on checkouts.

The biggest threat to jobs at shops - eBay, Amazon etc.

In alignment to this. Does everyone here go to Driveway service Fuel stations? In some places (overseas) it’s illegal to pump your own fuel.

Do we even have any??? I haven't seen a "service" station for quite a substantial number of years.

haven't had driveway service since the last time I was in Longreach. 2 years ago.

I think it's the BP if I recall.

I sometimes get it in Marree , but that's really because Lyle is an old mate.

I am actually thinking of re-introducing Drive-Way service.
I have a few reasons for this:
    To stop drive off's
To stop incorrect refueling. We have a lot of that in the tourist season for some reason.
And we currently have pre-paid pumps which again confuses the tourists, if we were serving the fuel I would not require pre-paid.
BTW Pre-paid is you come in & pay for your fuel & then go & pump it. The locals like the pre-paid because they can not over pump & they only spend what they want on fuel. But it is a pain as the tourist have to be moved to the normal pumps & people pre-pay for fuel but let it time out while they are shopping. They also leave their cars at the pumps & hold other customers up.
I have to do a Cost to benifit thing but I figure a couple of juniors would make it viable.
