Makes me grumpy just reading about other's induction woes. Hats off to the younger ones who can embrace this often irrelevant self feeding rort. The demise of common sense is killing people & limiting opportunities.

    Ooh, more paperwork!!

I need a Federal Govt security clearance now.

I thought I left Canberra two years ago? Grumpy old buggers threadGrumpy old buggers threadGrumpy old buggers thread

I avoided it there when working at certain secure locations, I was just escorted and under constant observation everywhere I needed to go. Grumpy old buggers thread

It was at this point that I lost my patience with taking pot luck, getting it wrong and being sent back to the start of the section so I asked old mate that was running the induction what de-energising hydraulics has to do with enlarging the roller door openings on your workshop (the job I was there to do). He replied something along the lines of "Nothing , but we only have one induction for this place but you're going alright, It took some our boilermakers ages to get through it.

    ****ing crazy eh?

Not much point in inducting students into hospitality if they're going to be in a mechanical workshop.

I've visited similar places where you have to fill in forms describing all your tools and they count them in and out and escorted the whole time.

All of the above induction claptrap was brought on by Morons and lawyers , all you needed to know in the early days was where everything was located . When i started at Hamersly Iron in the Pilbara in 1968 PPE was a Hard Hat , singlet , stubbies , and thongs , or shirts and boots if you wished , now you have to dress up like Santa Clause .

Did a heap of work at Newlands,Hay point, etc in the early 80's it was much the same.
Same for the smelter just out of Gladstone.
But we did have to wear steel capped boots.

    Building sites weren't much different

They have dropped the 'escorted the whole time',to save costs

That is if you have the full clearances, and are not working in an inmate area.

    Excluding youth centres.
