You're right you know. ASW & IFR. They destroyed/crushed the whole Fleet due to safety issues with Fuel tanks leaking & I believe one AC was lost due to an explosion over the MI.

Despite its slightly chequered history, The Comet is evidence that Geoffrey De Havilland could draw a pretty aircraft. The Mosquito is another.

It is & some bod in the UK (?) has repro'd one which actually flies well.

Not just pretty but extremely effective as well. Pity they weren't built to last though.

To be fair to De Havilland, the Comet was the first commercial jet airliner. Nobody understood the forces at play.

The Mozzie did a superb job of everything asked of it. Sadly, timber doesn't last. Magnificent aircraft.

I learnt (-ned a little "wrinkle" ( Capt. Mainwaring Dads Army ) re rounding off the window corners from that calamity.

Behind the S2A Data Plate on the lower bulkhead, you can access the rear threaded welch sh) plug & a hole can be cut to reach in with a socket & ext bar. It aligns perfectly & saves removing the 2.25 donk. The trick is to cut the corners rounded & no bulkhead cracks. I had read where this had happened in the past to a couple of folk & is a normally recognised failure point in bodywork I understand, & easy to do with electric Metal Shears.

Screw back the plate & job done. Not many people know this.

Apparently some intrepid travellers were surprised to learn this in the Comet.
