Drinkers, Smokers and Drivers pay more Tax on their vices than they pay on their income and none of it is returned. That is a cruel injustice that I get more than a little grumpy about.

It is obvious Billy, the reason in my little brainbox is they want to drive folk off Alcohol, Fags / Gaspers


As for drivers, they have been wanting to do that for years & years & the problem they always come up against is that there is no bugger to pay their fat Salaries & Misc Perks & in the meantime the roads & infrastructure fall to bits.. Hands up all those who believed that money collected was spent on Maintenance? What? nobody?

100kph zone behind 2 cars moving at 86kph. A overtaking zone approched. Both moved up to 100kph. The second car overtook the one which was the tortoise before the overtaking zone. Being patient I over took the tortoise and pulled in behind the other car.

Guess who reduced speed from 100kph to 90 as soon as the over taking zone ended

I've been meaning to make this exact same comment for a while now...
I have the great fortune to live in a small town along the Great Ocean Road. Anyone familiar with the Torquay end of the GOR will know of the only straight(ish) section, near the chocolate shop, that still has a 100kmh speed limit and an overtaking lane.
The amount of drivers who speed up to 100+, overtaking as many cars as possible, yet who then go back to 80 at the end of the overtaking lane, despite still being in the 100 zone makes my blood boil!

Personally, I believe there is a fair amount of Will I? Wont I & hesitation when using those Lanes.The ones I have used are usually straight or have a bend in the road & you are still overtaking relying on some roadside sign to say it is ok? What if there is a breakdown or other FOT obstacle in that lane but unseen yet? (have I got this right or misunderstood the question? They seem to exist in the LH side of the road or centre of the road facing oncoming traffic & both doing a ton or more.
It sounds like your Roads people need to have a look at that confusion.

The vast majority of that particular section of the GOR is 80kph and single lane each direction.
However this one particular stretch has a clearly signed 100kph limit and an overtaking lane, also clearly signed and marked on the road (just to be clear, this isn't a shared overtaking lane, meaning you need to take your chances that nothing is coming in the opposite direction - each direction of traffic has its own dedicated overtaking lane).
For reasons that I can't fathom, everyone speeds up to 100kph at the 100sign but when the overtaking lane ends and everyone merges back into one lane they all get amnesia and forget they're in a 100kph zone and slow back down to 80kph.....
Drives me bananas.

In a TD5 it is an absolute PITA,as the overtaking lane is often on an uphill section of the road,and with the lack of power,often i could not get past them.
With the D4,it was no issue.
I pity Truck drivers,having to put up with these clowns all day.

In fact,working on the Gold Coast,and travelling down and back on the M1 for the last few days i see similar antics,drivers in the second lane from the left sitting on 90Km/hr,holding everyone up,when they should be in the far left lane.The speed limit is 110Km/hr,although the road is often conjested.We start very early which is the only way to get a good run.
It is also surprising on this section of road the number of bike riders with no protective clothing,often with a pillion passenger,weaving in and out the traffic at speeds around 20% and more above the speed limit.
Temporary citizens i suppose,and they know where the speed cameras are positioned.
Apparently point to point speed cameras are going to be installed,which may slow them down.

I realised, quite a few years ago, that the innermost lane (slow lane) on the Brissy-Gold Coast run, is often a bit faster than the outer lanes. All it takes is a couple of HVs (or Camrys), sitting side by side in the two, middle lanes to create a slowing of the flow.
'Twould never happen in Europe! In fact, comparing my various overseas driving experiences, I felt safer driving OS, even with LHD and in some places, 'Fiery and Demonstrative' temperaments, than I do on the aforementioned road.

School hols on the Newell spring to mind... I think their ego can't stand the idea of being overtaken by a Double. They prefer to have it behind them with its driver looking for the photon torpedoes, or .50 cal. Driving a coach back from Buller in the ski season was fun as well. The Maroondah Hwy doesn't have many overtaking lanes, but each of them is a signal for the folks too frightened to exceed 80 anywhere else to accelerate to 100.

Also, I simply don't understand the mentality, or lack of it, that provokes people to sometimes deliberately engage in a very dangerous game with a HV, something I have seen many, many times. FFS, let the thing go.

And people struggle to understand road rage, after going out of their way to create it.

Unfortunately,i see that sort of thing most days.

Also,i see so many near misses every day by drivers doing the most stupid things,it is only luck that they haven't caused an accident.

Another bug is when travelling on a dual carriageway,with a speed limit of say 110Km/hr,if i am in the left lane on CC,on the speed limit,virtually no traffic around,some clown will over take,pull in front and sit on 100Km/hr.
