This is the third tyre in three different parts of the family over the last three weeks. Turns out, another tube gone porous.
I think I might invest in a battery powered rattle gun. Alloy wheels are a mongrel.

    Bomb Threats

Had Chuckle over a bomb yarn today (or three)

"A powerful bomb cyclone is set to blast the West Coast with 70 mph winds and up to two feet of snow, causing havoc for travelers.
The storm is associated with an atmospheric river – a long plume of moisture in the sky – taking aim at California and the Pacific Northwest that will drench the area by Wednesday.
" Bomb cyclone to slam western states with winds up to 70mph and two feet of snow

Say the word BOMB on a plane can cause wine to appear honesty.

Flying back from Sydney in the 1990s on the day before the AFL Grand final some idiot or helpful Pratt suggested they "GET THE PLAN IN THE AIR OR I'll Blow IT UP" I had been moved from cattle class to business class for the first time ever and while all my mates were back in Cattle class the BOMB threat had police removing the keen AFL fan and then unload all the planes baggage to get his bags off the plane. I was served wine and cheese while we all sat for an hour on the tarmac in Sydny airport. I did raise my glass in a toast to the crew back in cattle class a few time I am NOT suggesting making bomb threats for wine!!!!!

Bomb threats were common on my warships. Honest I shouted Dropping the BOMB dozens of times. This made many smile and the new crew require a change of pants perhaps if they were slightly nervous types. My "bomb" was a bathythermograph it did not go bang. My bathythermograph went deeper than a diver as it measured water temperature for our data base of where fish swim- I am kidding of course. It was for Anti Sub types like myself to consider hiding places for submarines.

Social media is such rubbish that I've started referring to it as the "socials", but pronounced "sosh-swills".

    Utter uselessness

Our two LR vehicles are now on club plates so we needed an everyday car. After a little research we settled on a Subaru Forester, one of the deciding reasons was it came with a full size spare wheel. It is approaching its first tyre rotation and the handbook gives a sequence for a 5-tyre rotation, which I wanted to do to get full value from the tyres. However, what it doesn’t tell you is it also has aTPMS system that only recognises 4 senders, and they don’t put a sender in the spare, so if you put the spare on, it sets off the TPMS and apparently you can’t disable it. So, basically, we have a nice expensive shiny lump in the boot that might save us if we have a flat, while also annoying us until it goes back in the boot, and it may possibly be unused for the life of the car.
So much for Subaru’s reputation for being able to handle rougher stuff!
    Cheers, Woolly.

I think I owe Subaru an apology. After checking with the dealer and a couple of tyre places, no one could give me a definite answer answer about what would happen with the TPMS if I rotated the five tyres, but they did suggest there might be problems. I figured the only way to find out was to rotate them and see, so I did that today and took it for a short drive expecting lights and beeps and reprimands, but it seems to have accepted the situation quite gracefully. Fingers crossed, but I will make a point of using my eyes and a tyre gauge regularly just to be sure.
    Cheers and sorry Subi,
    Woolly.

Suppose would work for the people who would pay Mercedes prices for a Nissan. Have to admit left it on the rack

Today, went into town to do some shopping (only four days since I did a shop, so not as much as usual, but I had a grandkid and her boyfriend, so that complicated and slowed everything). Dropped the kids at the movie theatre, and shopped - Aldi, then Coles. Put the Coles groceries in the car, and noticed the RH back tyre looked a little low. Left the car there, and went to check the bookshop. This is the last independent bookshop in town, and the owner is retiring today - not clear whether he has managed to sell the business or not.

Got back to the car, and found the tyre no longer looked low, it looked flat. It was in a difficult position, with cars less than 0.5m away both sides and back, and on a slope, and in the semi-dark in an underground carpark.

I decided I was getting a bit old for this, besides which, I was in fairly good, clean, clothes.

So I called the NRMA to help change the wheel. I navigated the telephone menu with difficulty, until they told me to stay on the line and act on a text they were sending me (still no human). Two problems, I have not a clue how to look at a text while on a phone call, and the text took an hour and a half to arrive. By which time, I had a friend turned up and between us we changed the wheel, and I had driven to the tyre place, and given them the tyre to look at. They said 20 minutes.

I came back to them half an hour later, and they had replaced the tube. The tube had a repair they had done a month ago, and had developed a split from the repair. No charge. This is the fourth faulty tube I have had in the last year. They told me they have discontinued that supplier, and are now using tubes they are importing direct from Korea. It seems that I am not the only one having tube issues.

He also told me a case they have at present. A near new BMW, with no spare, had arrived from out west with a flat and ruined "run flat" tyre that had done 300km with no air on Christmas eve. It takes a tyre size that is not available except from Sydney. And no regular transport until the day after tomorrow, so they are stuck in Dubbo for over a week! (The wheel was cracked, but could be repaired by them within a day, but that did not help without a tyre.)

No spare may make sense in Sydney, but not here.

I'm not sure whether to complain or rejoice.

But this is the GOB thread, so I reckon I should complain ...

Today I officially became a GOB too.
Got my Pensioner Concession Card ... whoohoo!(I think)

So, is this it? Is there any more to it .. to be a GOB, that is? I'll have to start thinking of things to get grumpy about.

For starters... why did it take the stoopid guvment so long to make me so grumpy .. or should that be ... old.
