And for those hyping a cash free society, and "do everything on your phone", my grand daughter had no cash, and relied on her phone instead of a card.

About lunchtime the crowd grew to the extent that the phone service became very hit and miss, and EFTPOS stopped working for her. Guess who had both cash and a real card. EFTPOS continued to work on my card, I suspect either because it uses less data than via a phone, or because the site was running private wifi and most of the sellers were using that for their EFTPOS.

She says I'll get paid back!

I find if i use cash to buy anything whoever is behind the check out is usually confused.
Sure the cash register tells them the exact amount of change, which as we know they didn't years ago,but they look at the coins and notes numerous times before they hand over the change.

Just imagine them with a street directory....

Or my FIAT crawler manuals. One in Italian and one in English, both with dear old dads fingerprints and Tasmanian state school hieroglyphics

Some years ago I was doing deliveries of gyprock for a building supplies/hardware store. To save money the owner provided a junior to assist with the four drops.
Once loaded and checked, I handed the kid the paperwork in delivery order and asked him to find the first address in the Refidex, as I secured the load.
I started the truck and the kid navigated brilliantly to the first delivery.
I was as impressed with his ability as he was with his first ride in a semi-trailer.
First delivery completed and I told him to find the next address as I resecured the remaining load.
Upon re-entering the truck I found him flicking through the map pages and assumed he had found the next stop, so was entertaining himself looking at the various maps.
"Where to?" I asked. He replied "Dunno, haven't found it yet." Suspecting something amiss, I enquired how he found the previous address. "I opened the book and there it was." He replied.
I had to give the young fellow a lesson on how to use the index to find an address. He picked it up straight away and to be fair, it wasn't his fault that he'd never been shown.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

To be fair, I never learned about using an index to find things in anything at school - I learned it at home, possibly about the time I started school, and strret directories when we got the family's first one, probably about when I started highschool.

    Magic trick?

Say you're paying cash for something that costs $15.60 and you hand over a $20 note and 60 cents.........

sometimes there is a look of absolute confusion then they go to work with the till.

You tell them the change is $5 and the look of astonishment is quite amusing when the till says the same thing.

I offered cash to a shop recently. They advised they didn't accept cash. Gave a $100 note to another shop and was give two $50s a $20 or two and a few more bits. I took my change and gave the rest back to a very confused retail person who was not my age

CFA training tonight on Map reading and comms. I was told the person giving the training was very happy no very young volunteers in this crew tonight. The trainer was aware some had no idea what a Melways, Gregorys or your maps were. I love looking at my charts and off road maps. I note google earth and other e-maps systems also rocks of course

Made a special trip to town today to get the dressing on my leg changed. "Sorry, the nurse called in sick, come back tomorrow". It is an hour's drive each way.

Went to the bank to talk about problems they introduced which restrict my online banking seeing I got nowhere on line. "Someone may be able to talk to you in 40 minutes". I walked away in disgust.

Last time I went to the bank I got "our systems are down, can you come back tomorrow?".
