A mate of mine showed me images of his shed. (caught up in recent gippsland fires)
Actual shed is still standing however his Harley had melted!
The aluminium anyway. Never seen anything like it.

I assume that was radiant heat at around 600-700 degrees!

Something i think we should get more volunteers doing.
Going to schools, lighting controlled fires and showing kids just how hot a real fire can be.
You cant just bunker down and hide from heat like that.

We got caught up in a huge bushfire near the Pascoe river crossing,Cape York,a few years ago.
Certainly scares the pants off you.
Particularly when in a remote area and no one around.
Luckily no damage to vehicle, and all was good.
But it could have been so much worse.

A very big reality check, I'm thinking I would leave, rather than fight, if in a similar situation. I can't think of any house that would withstand those kind of temperatures. Is there a design any where in the World.?
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

Yes, lucky. Every time I get a 'whoops' moment out in a remote area, it frightens the hell out of me, [ until next time. ] Every time I hear " Pascoe River " I think of that song, you probably know the one, and I can't get it out of my head. I'll post it here, it may brighten someone's day. To any one who may be having a bad day, close your eyes, sit back, and use your imagination. edit. A look at the country shows the danger of a bush fire there.

I think I saw a news clip of a car which had partly melted into a puddle of molten metal. Scary!
I also saw a news clip of a bloke who had stayed to defend his house, wearing stubbies, singlet and thongs, and waving a garden hose around.
I thought he had no idea about the ferocity of a hot bushfire. He'd be showered in embers and dead from the heat before the fire front reached him.

The NBN, and general Comm's during the fire were less than ideal. Copper wire worked better, in some cases.

Is there any particular authority that confines comments to this thread? Is Bob a moderator now? I would prefer to avoid his particular form of BS.
