I assume that was radiant heat at around 600-700 degrees!

Going to schools, lighting controlled fires and showing kids just how hot a real fire can be.

I think I saw a news clip of a car which had partly melted into a puddle of molten metal. Scary!
I also saw a news clip of a bloke who had stayed to defend his house, wearing stubbies, singlet and thongs, and waving a garden hose around.
I thought he had no idea about the ferocity of a hot bushfire. He'd be showered in embers and dead from the heat before the fire front reached him.
The NBN, and general Comm's during the fire were less than ideal. Copper wire worked better, in some cases.
