Why worry. The cost of flu in the US is estimated to be a mere 11 billion USD most years. Local deaths in Australia 2019 was a mere non worrying 1,100 with about 310,000 cases- It was a bad year 2019 was on trend for 1 in 10 years so it was expected.

My sad sack wimpy fainting and falling through a plaster wall in a rental property with my last little man flu was the last year I did not have a flu vax. Noting it is only about 50% effective I have managed to miss my trend on about every 10 years

As I am not renting now 23 plus flu vax later I still want to avoid the plaster repairs. Cheap at $15 bucks - It can be cheaper as well or free for many. Noting very few cases 2020 and very very low reports in 2021 making an option of saving $15 fairly safe. Then again my young guy did get it a few weeks ago. 3 weeks off uni he is still catching up with.

Is it only 50% effective? - I thought it was only 50% effective against the flu as such ie all variants but the effectiveness against those 2 or 3 strains that it is designed for is much much higher and it provides no protection against other strains so sort of averages out at around 50% with good protection for some and none for others.

Variable. The 4 strain vax is "Fluad Quad" which any of us opting in get now. Oddly I think in 2019 the 3 strain vax was the main one and the one strain it missed caused the chaos yet my brain cells could be confused on that date.

A new even better flu vax was passed up by me this year. Its about $65. My tight wad status remains intact

As with the flu virus mutating, I believe the Corona is going to do the same thing and it won’t be long before everyone has to have another variety of the Corona vaccine

Maybe Eevo has some merit to his way of thinking
Natural evolution has created the world and humans are holding it back from doing its thing, the world is overpopulated and needs a thinning out, the answer to the problem at the moment is Corona virus
Wether it’s Mother Nature or the Chinese government that has caused it, it may be a good thing for the earth Corona Virus

They think that the current mRNA vaccines are effective against the variants.

Doesn't natural evolution include getting smarter at fighting things that want to kill us and give us long term ailments (Covid does both). If we overcome it with smarts isn't that part of our evolution?

    Cheers

Yes, the world is overpopulated. Getting smarter at stopping things killing us is the major problem causing this over population.

Projected world population this year is estimated to be 7.9 Billion. The estimated population in 2050 is 10 Billion. This means we will add on the (approx) current combined populations of China, USA and Indonesia.

All these extra mouths need to be feed, housed, given medical treatment, educated, employed and eventally the disposal of their remains. I usually have a glass half full view of most things, but I just can't on world population. The glass is half empty and it has a slow leak.

It is not just about OUR (human) evolution, it is should be about the evolution of the planet as a whole. We are not the only species inhabiting this rock. People talk about individual eco systems, even micro eco systems, nobody mentions the global eco system. You know the one we humans have screwed up. And if you look at the graphs of human population growth and global temperature rise the curves closely match, yet we want to add more people and strive to live longer. We may be alive longer but are we actually LIVING longer.
