A simple self test, Of course I can't guarantee it.

    Test yourself

An email to staff at an NHS hospital this week contains useful information on distinguishing COVID-19 from a simple cold: No “cold nose” or cough with cold. However, an early symptom of the virus is a dry, rough cough. The email highlights early detection and a simple test to pick up infection: Breathe in deeply through your nose, hold your breath for 10 seconds then exhale. If you can do that without coughing or difficulty, you don’t have virus. The email recommends the test daily until infection risk passes.

Yes .... Australians travelling with four other Australians who happened to come down with Covid-19 while on the boat. And the currently non-infected weren't told about the infected ones and then the currently non-infected were allowed to leave, and disperse into the community thereafter.

    Complete and utter idiocy.

If you deal in reality, you must understand our government has dropped the ball on this. Probably understandable, this is unprecedented. But they were blinded by their policy of budget surplus at all cost, and their policy of lambasting Labor for their spending during the GFC. Fair enough , that's politics. But those policies made them reactive, not proactive. Let's wait and see what happens, type of thing. And that delay may have cost us all dearly. I hope not. But if your worse case scenario comes to pass, it would be this government , lacking the foresight, or even courage , to do what was necessary right from the start, that caused it. Can you face that reality? I really don't mean to be nasty, but I face reality every day.

Good chance you won't be proven wrong...
Coronavirus: The Hammer and the Dance - Tomas Pueyo - Medium

Bottom line is, even if your country or State drags its feet on taking drastic isolating measures, there's not much stopping individuals from isolating at home for their own benefit. We're staying home tomorrow (Sunday)

Anyone in the Health field know how many Ventilators and ECMO machines we have in Australia ? Any reason why we could not 'reverse-engineer' a handful?
During World War II, Aussie industry not only did the job on building our own 25-pound field Guns, but built our own optical sights for them. Both results were equal to original.

Elon Musk says on Twitter that his factories are 'working on ventilators' for a possible shortage caused by coronavirus | Business Insider
    - Don't underestimate him, remember the Big Battery Bet ?

Or are'nt there any (capable) "manufacturers" left in Australia ?

EDIT:- I spoke too soon... Gin makers switching to ethanol for hand sanitizer ... and GM and Jaguar looking at Ventilators... we can only hope that Land Rover sticks to motor vehicles only.

    Bond Beach is closed.

It could be a lot worse here.
The Philippines, which only has about half as many cases as us, has imposed a nationwide lockdown.
Our friend and her husband can only leave their Manilla apartment to buy food. Both their workplaces are closed indefinitely.

Like WW1 - Society will change

WW1 changed the world enormously - the old order was upended, society changed, the global order changed. I suspect COVID-19 will trigger similar levels of change in the world, and here in Australia.

As a prosaic example, my employer required everyone to start remote working from last Thursday. Our tech was a little sketchy but our IT guys sorted things out and even some of our support staff who we didn't think would be able to were able to be provided with a solution - they rocked up to work on Friday with suitcases, packed their computers up and went home. Literally every client or peer I'm working is doing it remotely. Our peers, several of which are in our building, are also doing the same thing. I noticed this because the bike shed - sorry - "End of Trip Facilities" - which are usually full to overflowing were about half empty. (BTW, there's over 300 bikes in there, in case you're wondering.) Had the showers almost to myself. When I got to our floor I said, are X remoting? Yes, started yesterday, was the answer.

After a couple of days of this they interviewed our Head and the heads of a group of our peers, including the ones in our building. Everyone said that their tech was holding up but the clearest comment that came out was this - working like this is entirely feasible for us, so why haven't we been doing this before? I'd guess that when this is over, and if I'm around - because as an older asthmatic that's not guaranteed - our work style will change and presumptive flexibilty and remote working will be the norm in my industry. And I can't wait for it.

As a teacher in a boarding school who's school on Monday is starting online education, it does make me wonder if this is a market that will expand in the future for our isolated students.

Murdoch has sent most of the workforce at the Courier Mail home to work. They have 80 IT specialists to sort out 800 workers. My wife has set up her workspace, and tested the gear all go so far. I can see this being the norm in the future, especially if he can sell off the infrastructure and save on the electricity bills. No worker has had the time to negotiate conditions, we'll wait & see how it pans out.

Every school in Hong Kong has been online since the beginning of the virus.

At the end of the day,....

there will be an inordinate number of deaths,
    there will be a vaccine,
hopefully there are other associated advances in medical research,
    the rich will get richer,
    the poor will get poorer,
    the world will go on.
There is no eraser on the pencil of life.

Now - Not a Land Rover (2018 Dmax)
    Was - 2008 D3 SE 4.0l V6
    Was - 2000 D2 TD5 with much fruit.
