... and I wonder if we'll get a mea culpa from The Age ....nope, not holding my breath.

Sorry to introduce some facts into the discussion - have a look here COVID-19 in NSW - up to 8pm 24 June 2021 - COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
Zero cases with an unknown source, hardly out of control and beyond managing without contact tracing. Due to the infectious nature of the current variant it is likely that many more people who are isolating will develop the virus over the next few days giving the media lots of fodder of "exploding infections" with little risk of transmission further in the community.
Hardly a cause to lock down the rest of Sydney, and its debatable whether what is currently locked down will have any effect other than satisfying the baying masses.

The AMA President has called for an entire greater Sydney basin lock down. His reasoning is that the Delta variant is different , is transmitted far more easily, and is something that Sydney has not faced before. The NSW contact tracers have done a terrific job, but having to trace thousands of people takes it's toll. We all know NSW has handled this virus very well when confronted with it in the past, but this is a step up from the past, and needs a different approach. The AMA says the virus is two or three days ahead of the contact tracing, no fault of theirs. It's no shame to admit a different approach is needed, but pushing on regardless of circumstances is just foolish. Tomorrow is a different day, let us all hope a better one for Sydney.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

The Melbourne experience was that localised lockdowns didn't work.

I'm morbidly curious as to how NSW will manage this new variant. There's an awful lot of water under the bridge and lessons learned since it was bad in Melbourne.

Hello - where are the vaccines?

…It’s been 18 months and the Australian response to Covid19 is still stuck in the dark ages of 2020! The gilded cage only worked for those who were eligible for JobKeeper. Now everyone is beginning to understand what lockdown has been like for those of us who weren’t eligible for JobKeeper.

Lax quarantine and bungled vaccine supply have squandered our 2020 island state advantage - the people are now getting very restless with the raised drawbridge.

Vaccine Supply vs Vaccine Hesitancy - is the perfect storm and our ‘leaders’ are bumbling us all right into it.

If they can't visualise that then what hope has "Following the Advice" got?

Don't tell me they can't afford it, then what about tearing up old newspapers? It's nothing new & in some cases it is about all that the Free Local Rag is good for. Nice soft newsprint. Ahhhhhh Delightful.

Must admit a little "schadenfreuden" over the dunny roll rush in Sydney

Hope they get it under control of course. "Gladys Berejiklian says she may have to announce new restrictions later today, after confirming more cases and more exposure sites linked to Sydney's Delta COVID outbreak." Suggests it might be a bit more of a trickster than the prior outbreaks. Delta clearly sucks

The mine case is ugly as it is almost a national spread? "There are 754 people in isolation on the mine site.
Approximately 900 people have left the mine site over those days, travelled to Brisbane, Perth, Alice Springs and Darwin airports. All have received messages to test and isolate."

The Current affairs thread has my grumpy thoughts
