What about all the soldiers, sailors and airmen/women deployed overseas in the last 20+ years?? Separated from loved ones for periods up to 6 mths in hostile environments. And many on more that one occasion!!!

It will only take one and QLD will be ****ed. Again.
The danger is, the NRL has trouble getting the players to do the right thing, but wives & children on the Gold Coast? I have a bad feeling about that. But, what could possibly go wrong?

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Yes, its not a particularly useful chart. I don't think you can draw any assumptions from charting restrictions vs cases until the restrictions have had some time to work. I'd give it another week before any meaningful insights can be drawn from that chart.

It does imply that the initial restrictions had little effect but if you look at the eastern suburbs cluster in isolation then it would be a different looking chart with the restrictions there coming down. The rapid and ongoing increase in cases in southwest Sydney is probably best considered as a new outbreak due to the different rate of spread.

Those measures don't have an instantaneous effect.
    Yes.

However, I've seen similar trends - with longer 'tails' which seem to support the same. ie, more intense lockDOWNs trend to UPward positive 'tests'.

Probably also reflective of increased testing and focus on specific localities picking up infections that may have otherwise been non symptomatic or the patient would pass it off as a cold and not bother with a test.

Co-opting the general is a political move to make it look as if something is happening when very little is happening. The nightly news is filled with footage of people in impressive looking uniforms sitting around tables seeming to be busy.
The contrast with Victoria choosing to second a former public transport bureaucrat to become COVID communicator is about as blunt as it could possibly be. Jeroen Weimar has excelled in the role to our collective benefit. Victoria is the only place in the world where a Delta strain of COVID has been suppressed.

but yeah where is the backup for that statement.?

Yes. The whole ‘war footing’ propaganda approach re the response to Covid is an insult to our collective intelligence.

Not only are the uniforms and optics oppressive and misguided, but the whole approach sends the wrong message about our collective responsibilities in a time when we should all be united in a peaceful international health response.

We are not at war. The attempted military operation optics aimed at counteracting the disastrous diplomatic and logistical failures they’re designed to obscure, are pathetic.

The whole ‘arm yourself’ with a vaccine campaign is also a disaster waiting to happen off the back of the ridiculous ‘hunger games’ rhetoric and a clear lack of supply of vaccines.

What happened to the health advice? Numerous senior staff in the health department are entirely capable of managing the logistics of the roll out snd much better placed to communicate with the public.

The danger is, the NRL has trouble getting the players to do the right thing,

That is so weird bob. Who runs the NRL, the Officials bunch or the players?
Soz I've just answered my own question. Fine the "Millionaires" heavily if they don't abide by the rules, they can't be allowed on principal, to jeopardise the game or the public or the day will come when they won't have any supporters anyway. They'll all be dead.

We are living in strange times & each of us has to be accountable. Time for team shenanigans when this is all over, when ever that might be.

'Guessing' (?) that there are more lockdowns headed out way... here's some interesting time-filling for then.

    - Don't look at this now or any other of this bloke's work, or you will not sleep well at night. Two views of the same bloke, not a twit like most government advisors & politicians.

First one has an Easter Egg for German -language afficinados. Host - German guy is lawyer.

This is from a local radio series, and if you fast-forward through the two hosts..... although they occasionally ask a leading question. See also between 19 and 23 minutes to start the unease...

The players do not run the NRL, only a handful have done the wrong thing, and they have been punished. A lot less players have done the wrong thing than NSW citizens. The thing is Peter V'landys has worked his arse off keeping the competition running, and and will continue to do so until we are out of this mess. Rugby League has been an escape for many , away from the virus, and a rare slice of normality for many. It's not too big a bow to draw to say it's good for the mental health of a large part of our population. And the NRL teams have been accountable for the most part of the pandemic, much more accountable than a large part of the population.
