Taking the thread back to sports. With the upcoming Bledisloe Cup Series soon to get underway, our PM has said that the Wallabies could travel here inside the seven-day window to avoid quarantine and as they are not NZ citizens, they would be granted "an economic impact exemption". Follow the money...

Even the NSW Government has admitted this is a national emergency. One case in Bondi has been mismanaged into half the country locked down in a threat to the nation and NZ. The NSW Government's 'proportionate' strategy has failed.
I think it's pretty clear that the whole of Sydney, not just certain areas, needs to be locked down and all movement out of Sydney stopped, like it was in Melbourne, until the cases are stopped.
Then the maximum number of vaccines need to be pumped into Sydney, including AZ.
The risk of dying from Covid is clearly much higher than the risk of getting sick from AZ, so let's just vax everyone who will take it, except for those with genuine medical reasons, such as my wife and one of our sons, who have had previous clotting problems and should have Pfizer. The rest could have AZ, as I have.
The numbers seem to vary, but from what I can figure out its about 1 in 500 to 600 could get seriously sick from Covid, but about 1 in 1-2 million from AZ. So, whatever the exact numbers, clearly having AZ is much safer than getting Covid.
So let's just lock down Sydney and vax everyone who will take it until Sydney ceases to be a threat to the whole nation and NZ.

Hey Windsock, how is the vaccination program going in NZ? We don't hear much on this side of the Tasman.

Central West NSW has really embraced the lockdown, we're all keen to nail this thing! Fingers crossed that it is contained, time will tell, but everyone is acting to get rid of covid from the region, 15% of the population have already been tested and everyone is hoping to get back to a more normal life. Even the old Bunnings carpark in Orange became a 5 lane testing clinic!

A really nice article from the ABC. Hopefully we can be successful with the lockdown and show that it can work.

My aim is to not leave the property at all during the scheduled lockdown, and to leave not more than once/wk if it continues.
    Cheers

A very good read (in my opinion) from Dr Nick Coatsworth on how the extreme risk aversion of "Experts" has demonised AZ, distorted government decision making and continues to do so. (warning - he does say positive things about NSW approach so don't read it if this offends you, its not why I posted it)

In a word - Slow. Nothing to brag about here. Percentage of population I think we are only just one percentage point ahead of Aust. Lots of complaints about the progress in media comments etc. I was due for an appointment a month ago and just last week got told I was lined up for a jab in two weeks and I am supposed to be in the third grouping - over 65 or with health issues (me being in the latter).

We only have Pfizer on offer here I think with one or two of the others (one-shot J&J if I recall and Moderna) recently being ordered for emergency one-shot jabs in case of an outbreak.

Reading the Aust press it seems we complain about similar things for different reasons. Key complaints here are lack of transparency in roll-out, dates changing etc. We are getting our shipments in increasing lots lately from Pfizer but before the shipment sizes increased we were constantly being told supply constraints are limiting the rollout. Now we have plenty, it seems the roll out is starting to increase in speed.

Sounds like everyone is doing the right thing which is great. I haven't left our place since the lockdown started here in Vic - I did a normal shop the morning the lockdown was announced and that's got us through but 8 days later I do need to go and get some stuff so will be heading out today but only doing what is needed and back home again. Basically Milk and wine and a few other things. For some reason I go through heaps more of these items when locked down and working from home.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I am not sure the approach has failed - while it has not as yet reduced the incidence of Covid it has prevented it from going into meltdown with a massive escalation of infections. Daily infections have so far remained 100 +/- 30 per day and have not risen exponentially as would have normally been expected with this variant.

There have been major cock ups in the hotel quarantine process in most jurisdictions but I would have to say that overall things have been handled and controlled well on the basis that the various outbreaks have not gone exponential.

It is a shame that for whatever reason, individuals/families dont seem to want to abide by the rules.

The ACT is still Covid free and has been for about 380 days but I can only assume that it will arrive soon. We have a massive residential building boom (not sure what is supporting it as population and jobs growth are no where near as great) and tradies from Sydney come down to work here - everyone is expecting that when we get our first outbreak it will be from tradies breaking to rules and working here.

...and now Aunty Gladys thinks that because of NSW Covid lockdown failure, they deserve to to have all the vaccine allocations for other states diverted to NSW!
