The Ruby Princess saga. The ship will dock at Port Kembla for up to 10 days. NSW has announced they are launching a homicide investigation , linked to 11 deaths from the ship. It looks like no one is squeaky clean .

On March 18, the day before the ship disembarked in Sydney, a worker on board the Ruby Princess was on the phone to Triple 0 for 17 minutes, relaying information about two passengers who needed medical attention, Mr Fuller revealed. He said an ambulance supervisor went a step further and notified the NSW Police Marine Area Command about the potential for infection to spread to other passengers.Leaked emails further revealed results of onboard swab tests from the cruise ship’s passengers who were showing signs of influenza would have been available the same day passengers disembarked

A message came through last night, they have done the quarantine, and an initial test has been negative. No news on the cancer, but one step at a time. It's been a strain on the family, with Mum and Dad coming back from Singapore to spend time in quarantine, but they are through that now. I know it upsets a few, but it's their belief that is getting them through this. Whatever works for you, I guess. I'm not knocking it.

Also Border Force had a role in thr decision to let them land. It was a joint federsl-state decision, I read.

Of course that will depend on whether said Minister is a "mate" or not.

There is some dispute over that. Border forces role was ensuring there was no contraband, and that every one had visas. They are not trained, nor do they have the facilities to do a health assessment. That is the job of NSW Health. Border Force Commissioner Michael Outram has said Health officials, not Border force, had judged the ship low risk, and cleared passengers under the Biosecurity Act to disembark. They had not boarded the ship to check.

""What broke down in this case was ... health officers, trained doctors or nurses didn't get on board the vessel, swab passengers and take their swabs for results," he said."

The health Minister should stand aside until the investigation is complete, and judgement made. He is responsible for the operation of the health Dept., and saying as he did at the start of this that he was not aware of what happened on board asks so many questions. I don't think that any one should have to face criminal charges over this, but incompetence shouldn't be rewarded. If someone low in the pecking order made the decision, without checking with their superiors, that's the sign of a dysfunctional system. And who is in charge of the System?

The Minister said the decision was made by a panel of health experts and he relied on their expert advice, which was reasonable for both the federal and state ministers to do, I think.
But clearly the health experts were wrong and the passengers should have been tested.
Another issue is if the cruise ship company provided proper advice to the authorities, or covered up that there had previously been sick people on board. I guess that will be the focus of the police investigation.

So what advice was given to the minister? Can't really talk about this here.
