I don't know why people who talk down the risk of Covid 19 talk of mortality rate. It's total mortality that is relevant because that takes into account the transmissibility and survival of the virus on surfaces. That is the problem with C19 versus Influenza A or B. It's highly transmissible and very long lasting on surfaces (and that is before considerations of mortality if you do get it...which on any view is many times higher than influenza A or B and where even those that recover, on emerging evidence, can have lung damage and other adverse health effects not normally associated with seasonal flu).

It is also very easy to look back in a year and say "what was all the fuss about?". It has been the extraordinary measures which have seen the total mortality as 'low' as it has been.

    Cheers

Ps. I have heard arguments that more people.die of heart disease. Sure. But heart disease doesn't threaten to overwhelm hospitals as the threat of C19 did (doesn't now due to the measures). And besides, each risk to life adds up. If we can save so many lives by locking the country down and smacking the economy for a while so be it. But going forward there needs to be a big rethink of pig and chicken farming practices across the world which has led directly to the developments of nasty viruses that mutate to those transmissible to humans and if people have to eat less bacon due to the increased costs of free range farming...well 2 birds with one stone.

My nearest hardware store is Mitre 10 - probably a 10 minute drive. Bunnings is a 1hr return trip....

Better a big Fuss now than finishing up in a Multi- Cadaver Trench like the Brits are doing.

Well friends, I'm in the hospital! Today was not supposed to happen. And just after spending the last few weeks being cooped up inside with the corona quarantine😷. I decided to go horseback riding, something I haven't done in years, and for good reason!!!!! Well it turned out to be not such a great decision.....

I got on the horse and started out slowly, but then we went a little faster; before I knew it, we were going as fast as the horse could go. I couldn't take the pace and I fell off, but my foot got caught in the stirrup with the horse dragging me. It just wouldn't stop. I was scared to death!!!!!

Thankfully the manager at Woolies came out and unplugged the machine. He actually had the nerve to take the rest of my change so I wouldn't try to ride the Elephant...
