At the moment, why is there any international toing or froing necessary? Surely, wanting to visit a sick or dying rellie, is not justification for taking the chance of creating a plane load of sick and/or dying persons.

I missed my much loved grandfather's funeral, due to circumstances beyond my control and the world kept turning.

I just can't think of a 100% legitimate reason for anyone to travel internationally, especially from Oz to places worse off.

Your figures look comparable to Aus, we seem to be getting a few cases a week (mostly in Sydney) from people in Quarantine. If you factor in that most people won't be travelling anyway (travel is down by ~99%) and those that are travelling probably believe that they are healthy now that the repatriation flights have finished.

All returning travellers are going into compulsory quarantine for two weeks, although there do appear to be a few exceptions such as the case in Adelaide recently. On the whole the exceptions seem to have been risk managed pretty well with those testing positive having been isolated from others when not in Quarantine.

Given that the case in question was in May we would have heard by now if they had infected anyone on their journey. SA'''s latest coronavirus case was granted travel exemption to visit dying relative, authorities reveal - ABC News

Sorry to hear about you missing your grand-dad's funeral. Sad circumstances. World continues to turn albeit a bit wobbly thereafter for a while.

In answer to your question. Yep, no doubt about it. The repatriation of our respective nationals for sure should be allowed no matter what. Arrival needs to be managed to create a buffer between where they came from and home. If we cannot allow kiwis and aussies to return to their respective homes from lands inhospitable now due to the pandemic, we are a pretty messed up society. We need to be able to handle that. Peoples of both countries are well traveled. Let them return but on the understanding that they return under strict terms and conditions. We lived under such conditions longer than they are being asked to put up with.

A NZ Military leader will now become involved in the managed isolation system. The Assistant Chief of Defence - Air Comm. Digby Webb, will be overseeing all quarantine and managed isolation facilities. This is to include the exit of people.

This will give the managed isolation processes access to the knowledge of handling big groups of people in difficult circumstances. He will be auditing the whole process and facilities.

Give them all a taste of cold hard lock down!

Kind of reassuring to see the response to this.

I immediately thought of that movie, but then realised it was the opposite of what has been proposed.

In the movie it was the tiny nation that declared war on the much bigger nation, probably the USA. The big nation's armed forces were distracted by something I can't remember and didn't notice that someone had declared war on them, so the tiny nation was victorious.

    Great movie.
