    thats where we're heading.
If we had the same number of deaths per million as the USA currently has, it would be almost 10,000 deaths, not 5,000.

If we had the same number of deaths per million as Massachusetts (where my wife's sister lives) currently has , it would be approaching 30,000 deaths, not 5,000.

And things are going to get a lot worse there. Do we really want the situation to get that bad here?

You seem to be assuming that employment would not be affected if we took no action. That isn't what the research says. Sweden's economy, with no shutdown, has been affected just as badly as its neighbours'.

my figures were based upon the population of vic and nsw only.

Total lockdown will have consequences, yes
Regional lockdown will also have consequences
Australia has kept COVID-19 infections down with the closing of state borders
The states that have kept them open are the ones that are the ones that are suffering now
I am sure if they shut their borders and kept them closed when the outbreak started, we would all be in a better situation now

and i believe those consequences are worse than 30,000 dead.

im not sure if keeping the borders closed would of put us in the better situation now. most cases are not cross border infections

Seems the other thread has been trolled or upset someone or both.

Keep it intelligent and think of all when you post.

    There is plenty going on.

I allegorically pointed out some parochially opinionated xenophobia (pox) for what it was. Not reported but just made my point in the asynchronous world of forum communications. The pox retorts became quite... focused. Not at all surprised (I have heard it all before from many different levels of intelligence) but plenty of scope for others to take offence and I guess some was taken somewhere, hence the thread removal (for cleaning).

If it was some of my posts that led to the temporary removal of the thread I apologise for that, but I make no apologies for a key principle of mine that I will not see marginalised - intolerance for pox-like behavior. If it was the continued retorts of pox-like content that my post may have inspired then for that I carry some portion of blame for the issue I guess but I will not stand by, online or in person, and see/hear the kind of attitude expressed without saying something.

Anyone else heard the reports that the actual infection numbers are completely bogus?

Apparently, If you get a positive test, that gets added to the total number of positives. Fair enough.

But if you then have a follow-up test done, and it returns a positive result, that result is added to the total number of positives as well!

So if, over a period of time, you have multiple tests, ( say to check progress of treatment options) each positive result is then added to the national total.

I'd like to find out the accuracy of the numbers that are being bandied about, as these are what the political drones are basing lockdown policy on.

Thought that was if the second test was 2 weeks or more from the first test, but will stand corrected if I’m wrong. Don’t know how much it’s skewing the figures though.

HOW IT HAS AFFECTED AUSTRALIAN EMPLOYMENT CURRentLY....

389,000 people are currently on the dole

there are 28,700 jobs available this morning.

those two figures are general facts...figures may vary a little.

our PM claims to have provided 215,000 jobs up til yesterday in which case there should only be 174,000 jobs available.

how come the PM's figures never match those available?

at the rate he is claiming job placement, that 174,000 will be gone and there will be smiles everywhere and all the small businesses will be happy.
