A few years ago, I played at a pub just down the road from Subi oval. We did every Saturday night for the entire footy season. It got to the point that when the Dockers we were playing at home we had a stall by the door selling razor blades to Dockers supporters. I don't really support footy at all, but even to me it's apparent that any "game" featuring the purple princesses is a bit of a one sided affair. So no so much a game as a walkover.

This is not an interstate competition . SA was openly gloating about their cv statistics.

No not "Gloating", simply proud of what we have achieved despite everyone else not taking advice & being bloody selfish.

I don't want any other Eastern Seaboard moronic ****er buggering it up for us either.

    Don’t come in ...

We were supposed to start tentative steps this week to returning to the office - my first official day since mid-March. Heavily socially-distanced, no-one sitting near anyone etc. But the part of Melbourne where I live in is one of the ones with some community transmission so I was told to stay at home. Because of 5 cases in one family. I pointed out to my employer that we were not in fact in lockdown and that we were told by the Vics and the Feds that we could go to work if required to. Nope, stay home. Stupid.

And the finger-pointing hysteria from NSW and other States is really beginning to **** me off - the Victorian Premier didn’t criticise NSW after the Ruby Princess debacle, so why are we copping it now from the NSW Premier? I was actually working at Circular Quay in January and February and had a direct view of the cruise ships and I remember wondering why people were just wandering off the ships when I couldn’t see any passport control. I charitably assumed that it was being done on the ship - nope, not being done at all.

The Japanese have now taken the view that there will always be a number of cases until the vaccine is available and it’s not worth crippling their country about - they’re getting 30 or so new cases per day in Tokyo and are just dealing with them and otherwise getting on with it. And that’s the reality for Australia too - we can’t eliminate it and so long as the vulnerable are protected and the incidence is under 1% that’s probably a workable result. And I’d long wondered how the Kiwis intended to open borders to Australia if we’ve in practice settled on a low level of infection existing and the Kiwis want zero: the two approaches just aren’t compatible.

My wife is deeply involved in education to healthworkers about this virus , in fact she is at this time conducting an education webinar to around 300 medical personnel via Skype. So if your bandwidth is down this is happening all over Australia.

Anyway , I asked her how much it matters if one state has 4 , 10 , 25 confirmed cases , her reply, under control ....as it is....it matters little as all our outbreaks are known and being controlled.

One of her biggest problems is not educating medical professionals but trying to educate media who are feeding the public with frenzied reports such as what is happening in Vic. Poor Dan Andrews is struggling with a misinformed public who are not listening to him but are listening to the media circus.
    Exactly.

As the Victorians said last week, a lot of the cases they’re picking up are completely asymtomatic - there was a doctor who had it and wasn’t aware. If the other States who are gloating aren’t testing at the same rate that Victoria is then, bluntly, they’re kidding themselves - they probably do have it circulating but they just don’t know it yet.

How much testing is being done per week?

Edit: I just looked it up and the positive rate for testing in SA is the same as for Victoria - but the number of tests is about 4.8 times lower against a population that is 3.79 times lower.

Because our federation divides responsibilities up between the states and the Commonwealth the State Premiers can't stop themselves from the political point scoring. The media has set up an unrealistic expectation that we can eliminate the virus in Australia and the premiers are scoring points based on this. I agree Aunty Gladys is pushing the stay out of Victoria story a bit hard, particularly as the shoe was very much on the other foot not long ago with the Ruby Princess. If an outbreak warrants it, areas smaller than a state should be locked down and the rest of the country should get back to business. This is unlikely to happen though whilst the premiers are tossing rocks at each other.

Or because they can't figure out where those 5 cases in one family got it from?

And this is why we can't have nice things. Despite all of the press, people are still unclear as the reason for getting tested. It is NOT for yourself. It is for others.
