I suppose they have to do anything that helps.

My way of thinking is that they will help stop transmission. But need to be replaced regularly, and disposed of properly.

The evidence from Japan is that masks are of major assistance. Tokyo is a very crowded city of 34 million, has had limited restrictions and social distancing isn't possible on the trains or streets, yet in Tokyo's current outbreak they're averaging between 200 and 300 new cases per day. The difference is that they wear masks, they don't shake hands and cleanliness is culturally engrained.

I really don't think it's any big deal to require people to wear a mask to get on top of this outbreak.

The Bellarine isn't in lockdown but people are being responsible and about half the people in supermarkets I've seen over the weekend are wearing masks.

If there is no concerted effort to get to zero cases then this is part of the new norm to deal with outbreaks.

It's a $200 fine, less than what you get for not wearing a bike helmet.

For a lot of the work I used to do I had to wear 4 different respirators......... shaping, spraying, glassing and sanding surfboards and windsurfers. Glad I did.

Was far more uncomfortable than wearing a simple cloth mask to deal with this problem.

Masks aren't the issue, people climbing over each other and queues to get into shops are. Maybe the Victorian state government could have purchased a few truckloads and distributed them before fining people $200.00 for not wearing a mask that would seem to be impossible to procure......

There’s no shortage at Bunnings - they have thousands of them but is limiting customers to 50 packets (of 50 each) so they don’t seem to think there’s going to be a shortage - that was late this arvo after the announcement. Plenty there getting them, luckily our work gave us a couple hundred each last week and have secured thousands for us. Given that I go once a week max at the moment they’ll last me a long time. Only went in for a plumbing fitting to fix a leak, but most there were just going about their normal stuff - all staff had masks on (as did I and around 1/2 the people there as well)
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I don't believe there is any shortage................. it's the perception that there will be a shortage that creates one.

    Like toilet paper.

Sure it's dumb, as dumb as people thinking it was all over in Melbourne, business as usual, no distancing, etc.

Seems to me they will all need a better Security Camera to ID imperfections in the image to be able to match them up with anybody 'cos it won't be the face anymore. Excuse? Just tell the cops "Danny said to wear one".

It was clearly stated "....except in banks..." when I saw the announcement.

You mean the branches that still exist physically?

Do you have to not wear one when banking online?

A bit like the US motorcyclist who was killed in a motor accident being listed, because he was COVID-19 positive, as a virus death.

    Pharmacies are also advertising masks.
In Asia its common to see girls wearing.masks and walking under umbrellas, so I guess I better get the brolly out too.
