SubscriberGeez I get a bit cranky when posters claim that the government is hiding the truth etc on Covid.
The vaccines were developed and started distribution in record time.
This has NEVER been done before. The odds always were that some roadblocks would appear.
How many people have died in Australia. Less than 1000. If we had the same as the USA it would be 50,000 plus.
My only criticism is that the Government is too conservative and the vaccine should be offered to under 50s if they want it (as the feds have done), not like WA where the government has banned giving it to under 50s.
Situations change . And the Guardian is SOOOO wise after the event. That's why they are going broke .

My bet is IF Covid goes wild here again we will then see all of us offered the CSL astraZ vaccine again under 50 included.
W.H.O. is grumpy that rich counties may now sell or give our not at present desirable vaccines to poorer countries is a little odd. Very sure places with few choices and growing cases of Covid 19 and overwhelmed health systems will happily take the life saving options we may not.
Not wishing for an outbreak here. Suspect with the virus changes which have and will occur, it would be almost impossible for us not to have a fairly significant risk of known unknowns going wild here again.
You'd better talk to the GP's. They don't have your confidence. And the mistruths are not confined to the vaccine. But that's a story for another place.
Many of the nation's GPs are refusing to offer AstraZeneca's vaccine to people under 50 until the federal government urgently clarifies legal liability if patients suffer serious or fatal side effects.
Australia's switch to the Pfizer vaccine for people under 50 to minimise blood clot risks has also raised concerns for unvaccinated front-line healthcare workers, who face a potentially long wait for the preferred vaccine.
But the president of the AMA's NSW branch, Danielle McMullen, advised doctors in that state not to administer the AstraZeneca vaccine to anyone under 50 unless there were exceptional circumstances.
President of the Royal Australian College of GPs Karen Price said she was considering stopping offering AstraZeneca's vaccine to people under 50.
"Right now in Australia, we don't have an alternative vaccine. What would happen if we had an outbreak? What would happen if someone could not get their vaccine - and they suffered a severe consequence of COVID?

SubscriberAFAIK, we are still in the 1B phase and will be for a while which is mainly plus 70 year olds, and others with pressing need to be immunised.
Things can change at any time so what is the point of debating it as if it is a today thing.
Doctors are looking at their hip pockets and not wanting the slightest chance of liability. I believe that is what it is about anyway. The fear of being sued.

We haven't vaccinated all our health workers, or those in aged care .And there is nothing from government when this is about to happen. And don't count on getting more AZ soon, not matter what is said . the EU is keeping vaccine made in the EU for themselves, and the UK just doesn't have any to spare.
Only about 130,000 to 150,000 doses of Pfizer's jab arrive on our shores every week, meaning some patients under 50 could opt for AstraZeneca's more-available jab to get immediate protection.
This is a particular issue for unvaccinated healthcare workers who could be on the front line of a new outbreak.
The federal government said it would prioritise Pfizer's vaccine for healthcare workers under 50, but much of that vaccine continues to flow to aged-care, which is still weeks away from being fully vaccinated. Some healthcare workers simply cannot access a Pfizer vaccine at all at this stage.
In Victoria, about 25 per cent of frontline healthcare workers in phase 1a - the highest risk group of the vaccine roll-out - still have not received their first vaccine dose. Federal figures are not available.
Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association assistant secretary Andrew Hewat said many members of the union were now caught "almost in no-man's land".
"They don't know how long it's going to take to get them vaccinated if they wait for Pfizer. And especially in Victoria, they are highly sensitive to the implications of an outbreak, having lived through 2020. It's a real worry for them," he said.
"It feels like they have basically left our members out hanging."
And then this;
We can not expect the UK to give us AZ any time soon.
In an interview on Friday, Thierry Breton said that “zero” doses made in the EU would be sanctioned for delivery to the UK until AstraZeneca fulfilled its contract with the bloc.
There was no immediate response from the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceuticals giant to Mr Breton’s assertion that the company had acknowledged that all but 1.2-1.5 million doses of vaccine produced at the Halix plant in Leiden, the Netherlands, as well as the plant in Seneffe, Belgium, were for the EU.
So, where exactly are we getting the next batch of vaccines from? And when?
The plants have been at the centre of a “vaccine war” between London and Brussels, with the UK insisting it has first claim on AstraZeneca production under the terms of contracts signed last year.
Mr Breton said: “I organised a video teleconference between the CEO of Halix and the CEO of AstraZeneca, and finally the CEO of AstraZeneca recognised that all the production of Halix was planned to support the EU delivery. That is all I can tell you.
“The CEO of AstraZeneca told us that in fact since February all the production of Halix has been planned to be delivered to Europe except, he said, one batch, to be very precise.”

And don't forget your flu jab. There should be two weeks between it and the COVID jab, according to health experts.

SubscriberHuh?We can not expect the UK to give us AZ any time soon.
The good news is that AZ is produced locally.
Minister Hunt had a press conference 2 days ago which described shipments of about 500,000 AZ per week for the next two weeks or 1 million in total.
This was stuff already being packed and some subject to TGA approval.

...Blind Freddy could foresee that this was all going to happen despite words of wisdom & assurance from World Leaders & our own Gubmint" Remember the words? "Sharing Equally"? Hang on B, wasn't that before some countries didn't believe they would need it & didn't order it. Well they slipped on their Garlicky arses there then. ie France & Germany to name but two. More fool that our gubmint was so slack & laid back about it & believed these jokers were honest. Frogs, honest? Germans honest? Well they also slipped on their arse as well. Say what you like but they ****ed up. No more no less. Normally we are suspicious of Politicians & their bull**** but this time around why did we believe them?.
Jeezuz bob, it looks like I just snuk in being 85. For now that is, until the next Warning Advisory is published. "All those under 150 don't get the jab." Oh **** we've just done a lot of the Country. Oh well put it down to experience, boys. Next?
