Back to looking for sound information.
This Doctor has a brilliant 'BS' detector, - written several books - and blogs extensively about Heart Disease.
His audience have dragged him into a few unrelated bun-fights where his ability to expose the truth is refreshing as it is rare.

I think you will find it is under legislation passed to control the outbreak of bubonic plague early last century. Which allowed all sorts of draconian action.

May even go back earlier than that. Certainly the powers existed when states closed borders and locked up people in quarantine in 1919.

It's called an ACT of Parliament, Both the Federal and State governments have enacted these to try and combat this Pandemic This is one of the reasons we have a government , Look it up
IF we didn't have Thoughtless and selfish people that have a total disregard for others we wouldn't need these ACTS to protect the rest of the population.

I'm content that the closures and lockdown of areas and business types for public health is legal. But why would anyone want to rock the boat? Making references to Nazi Germany etc and puffing on about civil rights is not going to help resolve the spread of the virus. Being community minded is the key. I am happy to give up a variety of pastimes for the sake of doing my small part. If everyone does their small.part the heavy lifting is done.

What we saw at Bondi Beach was disgraceful and I think the comments by the PM on this were spot on. The rules being brought in are in part just clear guidelines for good people to assist them to do the right thing, and in part to direct the gooses to do the right thing whether they complain or not.

It's not a grab for power. It's not a long term erosion of civil rights.

    Cheers

Look on the bright side BCF and Supercheap are still opening as is Bunnings.
    Essential services.
Also Subway is open for takeaways and the grog shops are open.

My reflection is that say 30-40 years ago there was not the same number of "entertainment" outlets like coffee shops selling smashed avo and enabling city dwellers to never have to pack a lunch.

Having lived in Saudi for a while there were no unsegregated coffee shops, clubs or pubs and the only sport was soccer where no expat would venture as the locals liked to pick fights. Our biggest joy was 4wd in the desert.

So it's back to the future and makes little difference to me .

I can still play tennis and golf as the courses are still open and ride my bike, although the closing of the gym is a bugger. I can go to the beach as long as all those city dwellers don't do what happened last weekend and drive to Avoca because the Sydney beaches were closed, prompting warnings of over 500.

    Regards PhilipA

I don't know what to think about Forum members who are able to be light hearted about this issue, I'm NOT having a go at them, I wish I could be like that, but unfortunately I can't. Just heard on the radio that the virus is now spreading rapidly into regional Victoria, there doesn't seem to be any way of stopping it. Also Worldwide, infections & deaths are increasing as we speak. So, has anybody thought how this is could end up? The only comment I can make is that I'm frightened, very frightened, but I'm very lucky in that, like many of you, I have a loving wife to be with me.
Also I'm finding that many things that I took for granted, home, past holidays, many things that I just took for granted, are now very large in my eyes.
Just wondering whether or not I have any common ground with other forum members who may feel a bit like this.
    Keep safe, Pickles.

Pickles the lock downs we are seeing now won't be seen in the stats for another 2 weeks owing to the incubation period. The Bondie Beach style twits were still infecting up until the closures and with 14 day incubation period expect to see increases for the next 2 weeks then hopefully a slowdown (but still new cases).

    Cheers

Pickles, take some time to step away from the news. Give yourself a break. Stay away from sources like facebook and sensationalist media outlets.

If you are afraid for you and yours then, take some strength in the fact that you can control what happens to you by practicing good hygiene and keeping away from other people. If you can have someone bring you supplies then take advantage of that.

You should know that the measures currently in place are not capable of stopping the virus spreading in the community so you shouldn't be expecting that, it's all about slowing its rate of spread to a point that the health system can can continue to cope with the workload. It's about making sure that the people who do get sick are able to be treated. Many people having contracted the virus will come through this with barely a scratch and immunity for 3 to 12 months. Ironic that those will be the ones that can wander freely without fear of catching or spreading the disease.

As mentioned previously it will take several weeks for the effects of the current measures to be reflected in the statistics.

Do things that keep you healthy, particularly things that help your immune system. Mostly, stop worrying as that has a huge impact on your ability to manage a situation....and it certainly doesn't help.
    Cheers,

    Sean
