Is that 18% of the diagnosed cases though? Ie I doubt there is an 18% mortality of all cases as there would be so many undiagnosed cases.
Don't get me wrong. A lot of deaths and that's horrendous.
Cheers
Just had a phone call from two of our children, [ of the other two, one is at work, the other living here] expressing concern about our health, and telling me the PM said as I am over 70, I should only go out with a carer. When I requested they employ a nubile young maiden for the job, the wife just laughed hysterically. Poor thing, I think the stress is getting to her. [ Either that or spending every day at home with me]
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Yep, a lot of sadness out there by those numbers. It has been pointed out here that funerals are not considered essential activities for attendance. Only a couple of people can actually attend any funeral here. NZ hospitals are locked down not allowing family in to visit sick family/friends. The impacts of this virus goes beyond the actual covid disease but also impacts all those other poor souls with health issues already in the system.
Where'd the graphics come from. Looks like a phone app?
A much better way to look at it is the number of people who have been infected, the number who have recovered, the number in hospital, and the number in intensive care. It puts it in a better perspective. The World wide statistics are looking bad, no death is good. Don't get fixated on statistics, you'll do your head in.

As I am over seventy, I'm supposed to stay at home. However, I can see a problem (not very soon, I'm right until just after Easter). My nearest neighbour is over 4km away, and he has no landline and mobile phones mostly don't work there (has to go up the hill to the shearing shed to make a call).
It is 6km to the village - I've got a nephew there, but he doesn't have a four wheel drive and is supposed to be isolating because of his health. It is 60km into town. I have a friend there who has offered to run errands for me - but he has his father and both his parents in law living with him (plus four kids) and they are all older and sicker than me, so I don't want to get him to run any risks for me.
And, even if I do get someone to do the trip to town for me, how do I pay them (I don't do internet banking). And how do I get my prescriptions in to the chemist? And this is not going to help me get my flu shot if it is available by then.
I live alone, but then I have done so for twenty years, so that doesn't worry me. And the phone and internet work here, although the mobile is a bit dodgy.
