Intelligence Community Statement on Origins of COVID-19
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of the Director of National Intelligence today issued the following Intelligence Community (IC) statement:
“The entire Intelligence Community has been consistently providing critical support to U.S. policymakers and those responding to the COVID-19 virus, which originated in China. The Intelligence Community also concurs with the wide scientific consensus that the COVID-19 virus was not manmade or genetically modified.
“As we do in all crises, the Community’s experts respond by surging resources and producing critical intelligence on issues vital to U.S. national security. The IC will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.”

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Thank you Mike & others. I won't say that puts my mind at rest because it doesn't, but Jeeeezuz it does make you wonder how we are mostly still here though.
I put my luck[because that is what it is] down to having good British stock in my jeans/genes. (English, Scots & a bit of Taffy.)
If you read some of the early immigrant Ships Logs of Early settlers arriving here (or not) it does tend to make one appreciative that they ate all their veggies like good little Boys & Girls. Well certainly back in the UK they did but it seems not when on board ship for 6 months. On my lot's ship, Scarlet Fever wiped most of them out while in transit. Mostly kids.
Ruby Princess could have taken a few lessons from that. Maybe.

Talking about child deaths, its interesting to visit old graveyards and see how many children each couple had and how many died young, usually from diseases or accidents. My father was one of 8 and that was pretty typical. We underestimate how many fatal diseases are now under control.

SubscriberAnd, has been pointed out before, that’s off a totally different number of infections and lethality. COVID-19 is, in total, between 20 and 40 times more deadly than flu, so if those flu deaths were coronavirus it’d be about 40 times higher - so, 2,520,000 deaths. So, really, really not the same.
And the death rate for older people is up to 180 times higher than for influenza, so really, really not the flu.
But you’ve posted comments like that a few times, about suicide and other causes of death but what’s your point? That COVID-19 isn’t a threat? That it’s just a beat-up? Do you really believe that? When the clear, unequivocal evidence from China, the US, Italy, Spain, the UK and elsewhere is that it really is a major health issue?
And it really is perverse for critics to now point to the low number of deaths here - because of the steps that were taken to prevent another Italy or UK or US - and say that those steps were never really necessary. The clear, unequivocal evidence is that those steps were necessary and if we hadn’t taken them then, like the US, we’d be stacking bodies in the streets.
