Bob, that’s straight from the PR dept.

Remember the UN is also working towards Financial & Economic goals. Not many of which would align to your sensitivities I would suspect.

Stopping a few places scrapping isn’t a huge claim to fame, and the freeing of colonies - look how successful that been in India/Pakistan for example.

I suspect you have no idea of my sensitivities, and I find your remarks downright rude. We will always disagree on the UN, because I believe in looking for the good , and not dredging up the bad. I agree the UN is not perfect, but it's all we have. We must remember, the United Nations is only as good as it's constituent parts, the member states. Without them the United Nations is powerless to act.

My point on the coronavirus vaccine [ before you made it an attack on my character] is that gathering the World's best and brightest under the one roof is better than having numbers of laboratories around the World , without constant oversight by a regulatory authority [ the UN] developing a vaccine to be sold to the highest bidder, with no guarantee that those that need it most, the poorest people of the World, in areas where these pandemics start, Africa and Asia, will have it in a timely manner. Commenting on the information from your previous posts and collating that into a picture is hardly an attack on you personally.
Your comments of days gone by regarding financial institutions, funding of countries, sovereignty etc were taken into account.
Therefore the comment of "this might not align to your sensitivities" is hardly an attack. Rather a statement based on observation.

The UN is not a "Have your cake and eat it too" organisation - Doing what is seen as good in the foreground whilst in the background doing what is Not-good (wont go as far as to say Evil / Bad) is not conducive to a happy and healthy planet or organisation.

If you feel so inclined to read a significant amount of material, take a look at things like Agenda 21 - its a real thing, and whilst subject to many conspiracy theories about 1 world governments etc, it is worthy of perusal.
Whilst there is a big element of logic to said concepts, the reality of governments, corporations and greed will always impede the application of such.

In line with the Corona Virus Vaccine development. There will never be a "for the good of humanity" outcome. Like the Flu vaccines each year - how many of them get distributed to those needing it most around the globe? Corporations are there to make money, I will be pleasantly surprised if a "global community funded" Pharmaceutical group is formed to resolve these issues.

NSW and Victoria have the cases, so it's their residents who pose the greatest risk to everyone else.
Queenslanders who return don't have to quarantine after their return unless they have been to a hotspot, as defined by the Qld Chief Medical Officer. Last time I checked the hotspots were all in Sydney. So someone can travel to northern NSW and return without needing to quarantine. Lots of tourist places on the NSW North Coast are being kept afloat by travellers from Queensland, so its helping the NSW economy.
The real losers are tourist places on the Gold Coast and FNQ, particularly Cairns, who have lost both international and domestic visitors.
Personally, I would open Queensland to visitors from everywhere EXCEPT NSW and Victoria, who would stay shut out for health reasons for 1 or 2 x 14 day infection periods, in case of a second wave of infections. Let the rest of the country, which seems to have suppressed the virus, come and visit.
I would also open to NZ, so that would put the onus on the federal government to stop playing politics and let NZ people visit. Put up or shut up.
NZ has done better than NSW and Victoria at suppressing the virus, so let the Kiwis in, I say. They might then let us visit NZ too. This would also help the airlines to get flying again.

I suspect that the assessment of "doing better at suppressing the virus" is based on good luck rather than good management as the premier of WA is now finding out with a spike in cases over there due to the cargo ship arriving from overseas. How good would the QLD premier look if a similar occurrence happened in Queensland (say a coal ship arriving in Gladstone with 20 cases on board) I'm with Scotty from marketing, there has never been a medical reason to close borders and the premiers who do so are merely pandering to their parochial supporters in a popularity contest. We need to start behaving as one country or bear the consequences. Once NZ is open to the southern states how is the QLD, WA and NT tourism industry going to look?

The medical experts day closing the borders has been very important for preventing community transmission.
I expect the national borders would open every state to NZ at the same time. If its safe to open the state borders, then its definitely safe to open to NZ. Lets see the federal act, not talk.

    Its still circulating quietly.

And the more testing that is done will show up more cases.
At this stage no one knows how it made its way to Blackwater.

These sort of spikes in cases will keep happening, regardless of closed borders

Are they specifically saying closing borders is what has kept transmission low? If so, do they just use that as an example of a travel restriction?

Isn't it the general restriction of travel that has done the trick rather than just travel across borders?

I would have though that if I was infected, that I would create exactly the same risk to others by driving five or six hundred kilometres from the South Coast to New England as driving a slightly shorter distance to East Gippsland.

Perhaps they mean that the closed border have helped in exactly the same way that regional travel restrictions have helped.

It’s not just the federal,it’s NZ that has to co operate as well.

A lot has to be sorted, between the two countries.

It’s not as simple as opening a gate and letting the cattle through.

But sure, the quicker the borders and travel to NZ is sorted, the better it will be for many.
