One of my sister in-laws mates (I only met him once a few years ago) was one of those statistics. Living in Southampton, 52 years old and an international yachtsman. Fit as a scrub bull, no known health issues. Got diagnosed positive on new years day. Started to feel "a bit crappy" on Sunday, and "pretty crappy" on Monday. Went to sleep Monday night and didn't wake up.
Suspected cardiac arrest brought on by low 02 saturation, but give what's going on over there the likelihood of a proper autopsy is not high.

I suppose it could have been a heart attack completely unrelated to COVID. We'll probably never know.

    Corona Virus

With 100+ suburbs in greater Brisbane in lockdown, based on QLD approach to other states would these suburbs be now classed as hotspots and all suburbs will be on the hot spot list for 14 days?? If this is the case that’s one less interstate work trip for me.

While some are worried about me thinking off going camping today before cutoff time ....the feds are moving people back to Canberra before the 6pm timeline tonight. And some are worried about me thinking about going camping.

Rich bastard! Hope you get sugar all in your Keyboard. Don't come complaining on here & asking "How to unstick my keys"

All I could afford today @ WW is a couple of packets of Pre-Xmas Mince Pie Chuckouts. $ .75c PP. "O Poor me, O poor me, what have I doneth to be so ****ing Poor?". Shakespeare, William.

Edit. Just looked at the WW slip & found they were only .75 cents PP.

Ian, I bet my butch Mince Pies have more farts in them than your gay Cinnamon Donuts.

Agness Hathaway, Anne to those close to her, was addicted to poker machines. Stratford-on-Avon RSL would ply her with free drinks. That's no longer legal.

Speaking of which, & I have mentioned this before on here somewhere.

'er indoors sister had another win pre-Xmas. Guess how much?

No? 5 grand on the pokies. She is amazing with the Wins she has. Ridgy Didge. Have seen the cheques.

Due to an earlier in life drinking problem she hasn't touched a drop in years.

EDIT. She went out today & bought her olde fellah an Electric Go Cart thing. Paid cash obviously.

Alas, poor Aggie. Frailty, thy name is woman. Bill never got over the fact he had to get his father's permission to marry , as Aggie was up the duff. [and 8 years his senior] Rumour has it she was obsessed with an aristocrat at the local RSL, and when that machine was out of action, was seen sea-gulling vacant machines while their players were out on a wee break [ hence the old saying " like a seagull on a hot chip"] Rumour has it that old ' peg leg' Hamlet , the old sailor from Denmark, used to ply Aggie with cheap wine, to have his way with her , but didn't have a ghost of a chance. A real tragedy, it was.

That Capitol building mass protest, a super spreader event? Already one member of congress has tested positive from it.

Was the Capitol riot a super-spreader?

We may never know for certain without effective contact tracing — which the U.S. largely lacks — and because most of the rioters who stormed the Capitol yesterday are unidentified, tracing them would be difficult.

Even so, a large group of mostly unmasked people shouting indoors for long periods is a recipe for a super-spreader event, my colleague Apoorva Mandavilli wrote.

Similar concerns were raised last year during the Black Lives Matter protests and campaign rallies. But in the case of those protests, most were held outdoors, and a greater number of participants seemed to be masked. (Research afterward suggested these were not super-spreading events.)

In contrast, at the Capitol, violent protesters, the police and members of Congress mixed for long periods indoors, some without masks, and without social distancing. Given current infection rates and the highly contagious variant that has most likely already spread to every state, it’s safe to assume that some people were infectious when the riot broke out.

Experts told Apoorva that they were particularly concerned about members of Congress, who have critical roles to play in the transfer of power, and who sheltered from the violence in large groups.

Already, Representative Jake LaTurner, a Republican from Kansas, announced on Twitter this morning that he had tested positive for the virus. Mr. LaTurner hunkered down in the chamber with other members of Congress for much of the day. One lawmaker told CBS News that about half of the 400 or so lawmakers and staff members who were huddling together after being whisked from the chamber for their safety had refused to wear masks.

Experts said they were also worried that rioters, many of whom had traveled long distances to Washington from other states, would return home and ignite outbreaks across the country. Given their political leanings, the experts added, many may be Covid deniers and refuse to get tested.

“We might get an inkling into how bad it might be because of the federal employees,” said Dr. Joshua Barocas, an infectious diseases physician at Boston University. But “I don’t think that we’re going to know the extent of this super-spreader event.”

A heads up on international flights and the coronavirus.

“The key message here is that you have to have multiple layers of prevention — requiring testing before boarding, social distancing on the flight, and masks,” said Dr. Abraar Karan, an internal medicine physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School who was not part of the study team. “Those things all went wrong in different ways on this flight, and if they’d just tested properly, this wouldn’t have happened.”
The new infections were detected after the plane landed in New Zealand; the country requires incoming travelers to quarantine for 14 days before entering the community. The analysis, led by researchers at the New Zealand Ministry of Health, found that seven of the 86 passengers on board tested positive during their quarantine and that at least four were newly infected on the flight. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER, with a capacity of nearly 400 passengers, was only one-quarter full.
