You might like to re-read the definition of essential travel.
When NSW and Victoria do as well as the rest of Australia and NZ, then we can open the borders to them. Meanwhile, lets restart tourism between the rest of Australia and NZ, but not yet NSW and Victoria.
WA and Qld are doing well, so let's visit each other soon. Put the kettle on Trout!
That's not actually a joke. We're discussing a trip to WA either later this year or early next year, when the borders reopen.

Cheers, I am realistic enough to know it won't last though, we will have cases in the future but the key take out is we have pretty much got community transmission sussed out. Our track and trace infrastructure is in place and any further cases will most likely be imported via travelers (kiwis returning or visitors) and therefore be quite traceable and controllable.

In the headlines also today we have allowed a large film crew to come in for the making of the sequel of Avatar. They came in from LA on a chartered jet and have been in quarantine now a couple of days. However, they were checked into the quarantine hotel at the check-in lobby alongside other not-quarantine guests and so there is now concern some kiwi guests of the hotel may have been exposed to LA-origin covid via the film crew. Big questions are being asked about the management of that whole process. Govt let the film crew in because of the economy boost of the films being done here.

We'll see how long our covid free status lasts but we are now prepared to sort out cases pronto once IDed.

Just to point out that most of Vic's new cases are travellers entering Australia at Tullamarine who are currently in quarantine.

As are NSW via Kingsford Smith.

NSW recorded one new community transmission yesterday, the first in well over a week.

The continued insinuation by a few on here (that'd be you Michael, and Bob) that NSW and Vic are somehow letting the side down and don't have things under control is becoming boring.
Especially when you start to compare the relative populations.
High level testing and tracking and tracing is working.

    AVATAR you say?

If it was me I's shoot the whole Film Production Crew & toss them over a cliff.

What a goddam horrible experience it was sitting through that bloody thing. Was that made in NZ?

Making a sequel you say?. As above. I know, I know, some idjits liked it

Next thing the poofy bugger will be back changing the Dambuster's History which seems to have had the skids put on it for now, or he has run out of money? Same thing, Mr bee. Or a Tax fiddle?

What next? The Cruel Sea? Gone with the Wind maybe?

Pleas kick these wonkers out as soon as they land, Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeease?

That should make for some interesting discussion around Troutie's fire pit.

Why WAIT for Vaccination Messiah ?

Buried in all the Doom & Gloom is this little gem, Vitamin D determines severity in COVID-19 so government advice needs to change, experts urge: Researchers point to changes in government advice in Wales, England and Scotland -- ScienceDaily

    - Needs to be read carefully, as very sunny climates don't always appear to do well...

In the UK, the vulnerability of "well suntanned" and "religously" fully covered people has become an issue.

BAME and Coronavirus: Why Is COVID-19 Affecting Us More

Bottom line is, supporting our own immune system is the easiest and perhaps most effective action the individual can take, all things being equal.. And sleep... Even if done by supplements (not foods) only, Vits A to E to suitable levels is still cheap insurance.

Conversely, a SAFE, properly tested and (guaranteed ?%) 'effective' vaccine is years away, if other vaccine productions are a guide.

Why wait till then, if you can do something now to increase your chances ?

I certainly hope so. I'm hoping to buy Trout a beer if we eventually get there.
Let's hope the feared second wave doesn't happen and we can copy NZ and reopen the whole country soon.
