Victoria releases list ranking areas affected by COVID-19
    Absolutely right Bob.

Here's equivalent info for NSW. Both links provide a summary of the numbers, the 1st has a great interactive map that can be toggled between current and all time cases as well as testing rates showing case location by postcode. The second link shows local verses internationally acquired cases. the vast majority of cases in NSW are internationally acquired (5 last 24 hrs and 20 in the last week vs just 1 locally acquired in the last week).

The Chinese outbreak is a mutation, but the virus just might mutate itself out of existence , A La SARS2.

Rightly he should be Mick. Seems to me you're somehow trying to insinuate that NSW is just being reckless and lucky not be in the same position as VIC through no good work of our own. NSW had low rates of community transmission which enabled the loosening of restrictions to go ahead and those low rates of community transmission continue. On the other hand VIC has had the unfortunate circumstances of a couple of hotspots flaring up as restrictions were being loosened which has hindered the progress massively and has been the reason Andrews has had to be more strict (good). I have no doubt that if NSW had the same issues as VIC, it would be under similar restrictions as VIC.

NSW seems to be the pariah of the country according to some but, you may consider that it is the one that done the really hard yards when it comes to this pandemic. We've copped the highest influx of international visitors bringing this pox to our shores and as the 1st state to register the virus in the country had to really work hard to stop it especially when you consider that the population of Sydney exceeds the entirety of Queensland.

IMHO, the protests will likely play out differently for NSW and VIC because of the different rates of local xmission between the two at that time. I think NSW may have dodged a bullet simply because it was in a better position than VIC. As far as it goes in relation to that for VIC, we'll have to see what comes of those 3 protesters mentioned previously.

It's going to be a tough road for the people of VIC to knock this on the head and I hope that they can really knuckle down and make it happen.

As far as I am concerned we're all in this together and as Bob said earlier what's happening in VIC currently could happen anywhere. It's no time for any of us to get cocky about ones CURRENT position in these times.
    Cheers,

    Sean

I didn't insinuate anything. Its just a fact that the Victorian Government has been more cautious than the NSW Government.
Hopefully NSW will stay safe while reopening and Victoria will get on top of the problems in Melbourne.
I see the Queensland chief medical officer has just declared the whole of Melbourne to be a Coronavirus hotspot, which means anyone who has been to Melbourne recently will have to quarantine for 14 days if they enter Qld.

Along with anyone else who goes to QLD, that seems to be a redundant statement

In reflecting on the Victorian outbreaks I wonder how much the transmission can be attributed to the Italian and Greek heritage of Melbourne with those communities' traditional extended family ties and celebrations? I dont know enough about the ethnic distribution of Melbourne suburbs to make sense of the published outbreak localities.

Fair enough, It's just that the way you seem to express yourself comes across as NSW not doing the right thing or not enough. Must just be they way I'm reading it.

Like this statement, I don't think it has anything to do with the cautiousness or lack thereof of any particular state. Each is assessing the situation and making decisions based on the advice of the medical teams. It's not that NSW is not exercising caution, they are. NSW is now in a position to relax the restrictions so that people can start putting money back in their pockets. I'm sure the minute we see any rise in local transmission we'll be back to restrictions again - like VIC.

    Yes, for sure.

The right move under the circumstances.

What about the AFL import who returned to Ireland to visit family and came back infected.
Good on him for wanting to visit family but if he's not an Australian citizen what is the reason for his return? Surely not a sporting contract FFS!
If so, not a legitimate reason.
