This might give some insight into the quarantine numbers:

Coronavirus hotel quarantine numbers crack 60,000 people as governments spend more than $118 million - ABC News

First of all it was all the NSW angst over the border closure. Then the cries that NSW and Victoria were being unfairly penalised over the numbers of returning flights with people for quarantine. Then the cries that Qld should open up quicker. NSW a big brother? more like a sick uncle. And what did Honest Anna do when it was made known the NSW VIC. border was being closed? Say I told you so? No. She was sympathetic to their plight. People up here are just getting on with it, we shake our heads at the noise that comes over the border, we know it's just that mob again , empty vessels and all that.

See SA also has called for a Cap on International arrivals now . Maybe we all should do what Victoria did and just ban all international flights .

How about we build a big Quarantine Camp and airport in one of our Deserts capitalized by all states , maybe that will stop all the crap . .

You're missing the point................ there were Somali cafes in the main drag alongside asian takeaways, alongside pizza joints, alongside one Viet place that did 3 settings a night.

Everyone I saw mixed freely. You're way behind the times, haven't been there and maybe , sadly, part of a problem of disinformation.

I hope I'm wrong with the last bit.

You may be correct on all points but I can tell you one thing, well two actually.

One. I hadn't planned on going there despite your praise & general acceptance of the joint & two, I don't expect to make plans to do so.

Can you drop the continual passive/aggressive crap towards any state that isn't Qld?

Check the number of arrivals/day at Sydney and Melbourne vs the other capitals.
They've now limited that number to 450/day.
Sydney is running of Hotel space.

As far as i am aware all or most of the Oz Citizens trapped overseas and found themselves in an untenable situation have been already repatriated home by the Fed Gov as it should be . At no stage would anyone in Australia deny any Citizen from returning home , but as usual people sometimes fiddle to their own tune .
No, people on the sub continent we're stuck and couldn't return as India and Pakistan went into lockdown.
And we don't know other situations, as well as NGO people going OS and doing there thing then having to return.

I've been quiet on the border closure thing because it could be considered to be hypocritical to be too voiciferous since aunty Gladys changed direction. However as I alluded to in an earlier post, border closures only make sense whan there is a large risk differential between states (or locked down areas). If we use SA and WA as an example there is little medical reason why two states with zero community transmission and presumably good quarantine of incoming passengers should have the borders closed between them at this time.

Victoria has tried unsuccessfully to constrain their lockdown to a few postcodes and there have been multiple instances of people deciding that despite the risk of an 11K fine that they will head interstate. I am at a loss to figure out how, other than a hard border closure that the outbreak could be contained within Melbourne or for that matter Victoria without a hard border closure.
On this basis the situation between Victoria and other states is different to the situation in other parts of Australia where premiers are using border closures as a tool to appear strong in the public's eyes. If WA has capacity to accomodate more quarantine then they should step up and take that burden, reading the linked story it seemed to me that a city of Perth's resources should be able to accomodate more than a flight every 3 days given the volumes coming into other capitals.
And Bob, I agree that the QLD premier is to congratulated on her restrained reaction to the NSW/VIC border closure.

    Lock down Melbourne

Unfortunately Melbourne and probably the entire State is going to have to go back into lockdown.

191 cases today, and that's the most we've ever had.

And it's not hard to work out why - I was at South Melbourne Market on Saturday and no-one was social distancing unless physically forced to. I saw three big yobbos push past a security guard who was trying to direct one-way foot traffic and then they chose to walk out the in door rather than the exit. I was wearing a mask but out of the thousands of people there I saw just two other people doing so. It was almost identical to the situation the last time I was there around February, before the restrictions came in. If someone there was infectious then there would have been mass transmission.

Their in lies the problem, WA does NOT have the hotel capacity of the other Cities like Melbourne, Sydney and even the Gold Coast to accommodate a massive influx of people that are required to be isolated and I doubt that we have enough personnel to look after them either.
IF WA is inundated with returnees and it is unable to contain this virus because of this them it will be another a VIC second wave in this State as well.
WA has contained this virus pretty well so far and putting extra pressure until it gets to the point of failing on a system that has obviously worked so far is Gross Stupidity.
WA has and continues to repatriate Western Australians from overseas so far without causing Any major outbreaks and by putting extra pressure on this it will undoubtedly fail.
SO Where do we send these returnees when everything turns to Mud in WA FFS

What, that Island off Freemantle sank in the last couple of months did it? The premier suggested one flight every 3 days and flights are capped at 50 people. I still don't think WA are pulling their weight......
