Agreed, but I think that the "second wave" nomenclature is misleading - with the 1918 flu the second wave was the original rather mild flu mutating and coming back in an incredibly deadly form:

Why the Second Wave of the 1918 Spanish Flu Was So Deadly - HISTORY

In this case SARS-COV-2 isn't mutating, it's just incredibly resilient, largely because it can be both asymptomatic and infectious.

And because of the long incubation period, meaning that by the time you know you have a single case, there are another three that are going to appear; and will have infected another three each before you know who they are. And so on, until sufficient restrictions are applied to cut the reproduction number to less than one.

You haven't been to a caravan park near you lately, hardly a Qlder to be seen, NSW and Vic. are well represented. As for the others the same rules apply, they have to go into quarantine for 14 days. No matter who they are.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

Yes but the plebs have to go into hotel quarantine and pay for it but the knobs and football players can do it their own way or go into a special bubble created just for them.

The problem with Qld authorities is not what they are trying to do but the hypocrisy with which they do it - as an father from the ACT (No community transmission for 150 days) who needs to visit his dying mother said, he has more chance of catching COVID in Qld than taking it there.

As far as the caravan parks are concerned Bob, I think you will find that most of the NSW and Vic regos in them are grey nomads and have been here since before the current overarching and overreaching lockdown which (I think) started in early July. They are just doing what they do ever year, what my grandparents did, headed north for the winter.

Qlders are not going to fix the tourist economy on our own. With the gov "Unite and Recover" plan most will be too busy to take a holiday which just leaves the pensioners (no offence) and the unemployed to fill the hotels. Not gunna happen.

This from the govco website on border passes.

Exactly my point. If an area such as the ACT and western NSW has no active cases and no community transmission then why are they locked out? Lock out geographical locations or postcodes not a whole state, it makes no sense. If your home address is in a hotspot, whether you have come from there or not, go home. If you are a Qlder and you visit a hotspot then suffer the 14 days of user pays substandard quarantine. If you haven't been to a hotspot, welcome home.

I feel for the many businesses that will ultimately close and the people this will affect, owners and employees, before these border restrictions are relaxed. This will not make for a Merry Christmas.

After the positive case in the local prisons, many prison officers went back to work as well, before their 14 day isolation was up.
Contracters had to do the full 14 days.

Many of those Contracters didn’t go anywhere near the officer that was positive. The officers did.

Rules for some and not others is stupidity, and doesn’t look good.

When History Books are written about this period in our history, how would you like your name in flashing Neons being the one who caused that? Not you, not me, thank Christ. Someone will have to live with it but I sense the writing is on the wall for all to see. I hope they spell that funny name correctly.

This is soo true - my 92yo mum lives in Newcastle and one of my brothers lives in Yatala between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. I spoke to my Mum on Sunday and she was upset because she had just been on the phone with my brother.

He told her that given the way things were going, and given the stupid approach of the Qld authorities, there was a good chance that the Qld restrictions would still be in place which would mean he would not be able to visit Mum for Christmas - yes he could come down to NSW but with the quarantine and costs involved with that when he returned to Qld he would not be able to travel.

As you said, this will not make for a Merry Christmas.
