My daughter who's husband works for an events hire Co has been working setting up an event at the Springfield Uni this last week , so they are off to be tested today & will likely have to self isolate until given the all clear we hope. That is the problem with this industry , they go in & set up then return immediately the event finishes to pull down , then everything is cleaned once back at the warehouse. Who knows who have been at the event.

I watched an interview with an Arab speaking Dr on the ABC, he saw the need for a video in language, so the non english speakers could be passed information on vaccinations, mask wearing etc. He & a couple of mates produced a video , of a friend of theirs in hospital, struggling to breath, and put it on the social media outlet the arab speakers used. He said it did more to make the non english speakers aware of what they needed to do than any thing that had been put out there before. It was so successful that they went on to make 8 more videos in 8 different languages, and he said that without those videos the non english speakers would have been left in the dark.
That posed the question of whether the majority of the people didn't have English as a language, and if not, how did they get on dealing with, as you say services in Aus. . A friend of mine from Iraq told me in some cases only one member of the family group would be the english speaker, and the rest relied on them. If he was sick, or at work, the family would be lost and confused. I would think surely the government would have people with the language skills to deal with that situation, and in Victoria I know they have multilingual contact tracers . Some thing has gone astray for sure.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
exaclty my point, what ever the government is doing is not working.
if they are untrusting of government ,scared or weary of police then you can have someone in uniform accompanying someone knocking at their door.
It's no good the premier telling and pleading for people to stay home if they don't understand english.
however they are working with community leaders is not working.
whether its it on or in the migrant, tv news or radio or news papers l don't know, but it must be front page news surely?
Looks like the planned demonstration today was a bit of a fizzer - nobody turned up!

Part of the migrant settlement package is 512 hours at TAFE doing a certificate course called spoken and written English. The course is very practical and good, but government cuts to TAFE can affect its delivery.
Reality is it takes most people up to 10 years to become functionally fluent in a new language, the older you are the longer it takes.
