"You Victorians" - who would've even said that 18 months ago? Australia really has devolved into a series of mini-countries, complete with ridiculous State-based parochialisms. That attitude must've already been there pre-Covid but I'd always assumed that the State-based stuff wasn't based on anything real, but it appears that I was wrong.
The real lesson from Victoria last year was actually that it could've happened anywhere, but the other States mistakenly thought that it had to do with something intrinsically Victorian. Our contact tracing wasn't up to scratch but that's where the unique elements ended. [Edit] As I said a couple of weeks ago, the Sydney outbreak was starting to look startlingly like the Melbourne one, so lessons clearly hadn't been learnt.
Peter Fitzsimons actually said this a couple of weeks ago:
We’re sorry we looked down on you Victoria - see you on the other side of lockdown

Lot of sad stories coming out.
Even in our family, the eldest son and family are afraid to return to home in Sydney, can't come to us in Qld, are camped with in laws near Byron and have enrolled 3 kids in a local school, since the Sydney situation just keeps getting worse. Frustrating, but at least they're okay.
Much more serious is I read something by a bloke who can't support his mate in Sydney whose parents have both died of Covid and who is now suicidal.
Ans some moron flies from Sydney to Melbourne and then on do Launceston - arrives without relevant permits and is stopped and tested - then flies back out to (I am guessing Sydney) - is now positive with Covid - so many people just breaking the lock down rules.
Here in the ACT we are still Covid free - for about 400 days but with all these morons around I cannot see our record lasting much longer.

Same with my youngest son, wife had the baby, she was in hospital for a week with complications,he wasnt allowed to vist, then was, then couldnt take his 2yr old daughter, then he could.FFS,no one knew what were the rules.
Been cleaning out my Mothers place,no one is living there,so are we allowed,i dont know?
Article in the paper said if no one is there, its OK,but cant find that ruling on the website anywhere.
So we havent been there, dont want to risk a hit to the pocket.
I almost agree :-) , NSW managed outbreaks successfully prior to this one as well and I agree the lessons from the migrant areas in Victoria haven't been learned as NSW has pretty much managed to get the Eastern suburbs cleaned up where vaccination rates are higher, most people can either work from home or are supported in lockdown and there is no communication barriers.
There is an abundance of people wanting someone to blame so minor differences in lockdown schemes get picked out as "that is why XXX is failing" which doesn't help as well. I suspect the only way out of this mess is to vaccinate our way out.
