My neighbour just bought 6 big LPG gas cylinders..took them home in his Tarago. He's also filled 2 X1000l tanks with fuel and bought 1000 rounds of ammo. Local gun shop is out of .22s..other ammo is selling out fast. Supply is hard to get..and yes..it's going to Uncle Sam ..again!

At least I know where to go for gas, ammo and fuel😃

He wants to buy 2 steers off me to kill for food for his 5 kids. I said where are you going to store 500kg of meat..so he rang Hardly Normal but they've sold out of freezers..waiting on supplies from China/Asia.

    It's a mad mad world!!

not much chop for long term storage of petrol.

the stuff with ethanol in it only lasts about a month in ideal conditions before you need to do something with it.

Thankfully we don't get that stuff here. I find I can safely store 98 for about 12 months. The standard 91 seems to start going bad at less than half that. Anecdotal only of course.

Years ago I was told by a Fuels Chemist from one of the Big 7 that survivalists who were storing drums of petrol were fooling themselves. Petrol loses startability progressively from about 3-6 months in storage and will eventually break down into a black sludge and other liquids.

petrol is light enough to start self fractioning with just normal temperature variations...

it starts to crack apart before its something you can "eyeball". it doesnt take a lot to keep it in useable condition but it does take some work... keeping it cold, dry and mixed are the key things.

Yep. 44 Gal, 205 Litre drums, on their sides, regular ( ie weekly ) rotation and the stuff keeps. Leaded keeps better than the newer stuff. Let it lie and it's gone.

I can report that one of our mowers wouldnt start recently after being unused for six months with half a tank of petrol. Filled the tank with fresh petrol and it started first go.

Filled up with diesel for 131.9 at the Shell depot card outlet in Burnie yesterday. Nearby servos were about 150.

I have found that running a small engine (lawnmower, genset, firefighter etc.) about once a month will sort most fuel issues out, Maybe its simply the vibration that keeps the petrol good

good practice on carby engines is to turn the fuel off and let it run out if you don't know how long until the next use
