We have a friend who is a Postie & he has to leave at 0 4:30 05:00 to travel to the smoke to sort mail BEFORE he jumps on his Scooter & delivers stuff.

In all weathers rain, hail, or shine although there isn't much shine going @ 0430 in Winter here. Mind you he is on a very good screw well in excess of 150 k He probably earns it as well.

Only recently & possibly at present AP were expecting some staff to do Voluntary Overtime but apparently not the Supervisory staff. This was to assist with the backlogs. Not sure how far "Voluntary" went though or if they even got paid.

$48 k watch? One would have thought she'd want to play it low key & wear a "Service Station Special" digital.

    Talk about flaunting one's position!

I recall the last (or was it the one before? doesn't matter they were all at it) CEO from Mexico walked away with millions. Makes one wonder where the **** do the get these people?

Hang on, maybe that was the TELECOM CEO? We won't go there.

I am not sure why this CEO stood aside - the PM and the Minister cannot direct this in a straight forward manner as this is a Government Business Enterprise and these organisations and Statutory Authorities are accountable to their legislation not the Government. If Aust Post had been the ABC or the Reserve Bank the PM would have been told to **** off.

The only way the Minister can direct these organisations is to draft a "directive" under the relevant legislation which has to be tabled and debated in Parliament and this has not been done.

The only people who can make the CEO stand aside is the Board by a formal vote and this has not been done either.

The board are as in the nose as the CEO so something had to be done - I think it was the right call.

I read the Minister told the board chairman to stand her aside.
It is claimed the board is stacked with political appointments, but I'm not sure how true that is.

I agree the Board is just as culpable but what was the head of power the Government used to force the CEO to stand aside - it is not being used at the moment - could you imagine the issues if they did the same with the head of the Reserve Bank or the ABC CEO were in the same position - there would be a public slanging match on government interference on the independence of the authorities.

Stop the Press - ASIC CEO has been stood aside due to some personal expenses charged to the organisation. The Government can do this as ASIC is not an independent authority and directly comes under the rule of Govt.

Leaving the quality of the AP CEO aside (because I am not in a position to judge it) The Government can't have it's cake and eat it too. If they want to run a Government corporation they don't have the right to interfere in its day to day operations. If the PM wants to micro manage how the boss of AP incentivises her staff then the government needs to nationalise Australia post and put a Minister in charge of it. Being a major shareholder entitles you to a voice on the board, not to act as the owner.......
The Government also didnt complain about the 53.6 million dollar tax before profit that it recieved as the major shareholder but is complaining about a $3000.00 bonus, approved by the board to the executives that delivered that profit.

It would be interesting to know the basis of how the CEO of a government corporation is put in front of Senate estimates anyway. Senate estimates is a forum for managing government expenditure , not that of a corporation.

Like I said you can't have your cake and eat it too, nationalise AP or shut up.

No watch, & I'm not sure he even owns one. He does plenty of OT though & is 2IC when needed at the Sorting Office. Apparently
