Don't be so harsh, RB! I'm sure, that after a few weeks, he'll get the hang of it!

best to remember that not all of the jobs exist, some you dont want to work for.....

I remember trolling through jora, seek, indeed, only to find that of all the hundreds of jobs listed, bunches of them were over 6 weeks old, filled positions and often the same position listed multiple times and cross referenced.

    Yes.

One of the biggest problems with modern Universities is that once there were only a specific number of positions in certain degrees. You had to be the cream of the crop to get a placing.

Then came all the arts degrees - degrees in totally useless study with very little real world application.

So now we have a heap of people studying for qualifications which mean absolutely nothing in the real world. Or people studying and then expecting to find the perfect job just 5 minutes from where they are living.

When I was in the later portion of my schooling there was a focus on “what’s out there, where, what it pays, how many positions” etc.
Now the students completely fail to research their future before committing to debt laden studies in rubbish fields.

Engineers are currently dime a dozen - and software makes them far more productive, reducing the numbers required.

Thought you were going to say “making them far less necessary”... 😇🤣

uni's are about money making now days. having a degree doesnt make you special or entitle you to a job.

Yep....sometimes ya gotta start at the bottom.

Would have to be careful, doesn’t want to engineer himself out of a job by automating it.

Yes but the glut of people with degrees has resulted in them being made entry requirements for many roles where they were never required before. This limiting opportunity for those seeking employment

Had a position running a ledger and collecting in the cash. HR were sending through the CV’s and could not find any that seemed the right type. To be successful at this you need the right character in the person.

When went to HR to ask for advise and they said there were many more applications however the computer sorts on key words. Once of the mandatory ones is degree. Did not care what it was in just that the applicant had one

HR had decided that the company needed to up-skill the work force and having a degree was one of the new parameters they had set to achieve this

Spoke to a friend who said they were doing the same. This was as to obtain the same quality of people they were hiring 20 years ago they now need to go to someone with a degree. Used to hire people who had completed year 12 and did not want to go to university. We’re now hiring these same people only with a degree.

Role and salary had not changed. If anything these people were having more competition for jobs as due to supply not being connected to demand there were plenty of applicants who would on the past not have even considered this type of role asking for a position

In the end hired someone who had a degree in some kind of bio physics who worked out very well. Shame about all those years of effort they put in for the degree and the waste of the knowledge society has paid for though

    Back to my original post.
We hired our 2 couples, Assistant Managers & partners, because we had so few applicants the second couple we hired were really not our ideal choice.
Sort of, we have to have 2 couples & they are the next best, kind of thing.
The short story of that was that they were not suitable & have gone after 2 weeks.

So, back to the drawing/advertising board & we do it all again. Fortunately, the other couple have been good so that is something.

I am having next week off so I hope they can deal with things. 4 weeks, 7 days a week, 19 hour days, I'm stuffed & starting to really feel it.
