We were supposed to be on fraser right now but switched to Moreton.....

To our surprise the eastern beach camping is very quite, we had plenty of site to choose from yesterday. West and northern beaches will be busy I guessing, will confirm this over the next few days.

While the price of the barge can be daunting but when you crunch the numbers on travel time, and distance it stacks up OK for us.
That’s exactly why we like Moreton over Fraser these days.

We don’t spend half the day driving, and the place is nice and quiet,we never go school holidays or weekends.

It’s a great place and the fishing isn’t bad either, particularly when the Tailor are running.

Kingfisher resort guests told to leave. This is going to put more pressure on Moreton and Straddie regards tourist numbers, I think. Middle creek camping area, Eurimbula National Park 1770, is probably as good as any, with the advantage you can drive in & out. [ 4WD high clearance] spent a couple of very pleasant times there. When we last went they were building composting toilets, think that's what they were.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Oh bugger you, Steve. I'v just googled Tailor & Now I have to look for Snodger Flatties. They must be either a woman's shoe from the '60s or an artificial Bra.

Nope Mr bee, another flamin; fish.

Never heard the word snodger before, Queensland word or sheltered life on my part?

I think you may thank one C.J. Dennis for the term.

A different meaning altogether, in Scotland.

I just can't understand why all the campers on Fraser don't leave voluntarily.

If you haven't been on Fraser it is heavily wooded and a good wind or self generated one would very easily start a maelstrom there and you can't get off some the tracks even if you want to.

If the **** hits the fan they will cry like ****.

I was in Caloundra last week and a couple of days there the smoke was quite thick.

Australia bushfire rips through heritage-listed island

Australia bushfire rips through heritage-listed island (bangkokpost.com)

BRISBANE: Australian firefighters are struggling to control a massive bushfire that already destroyed 40% of the UNESCO world heritage-listed Fraser Island before a heatwave hit Monday.
The fire on the world's largest sand island, off Australia's east coast, has been raging for more than six weeks and is consuming large swathes of the island's unique forests.

    Bushfire warning level: EMERGENCY WARNING

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire approaching Happy Valley. Leaving immediately is the safest option, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive. Any persons in the vicinity of Happy Valley township should leave the area heading to the Eastern Beach and head south to Eurong Resort.

Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a plan, your safest option is to leave immediately if it is clear to do so. If you cannot leave, identify where you will seek shelter from the bushfire. If you are not in the area, do not return, as conditions are too dangerous.

Currently as at 4.15pm Sunday 6 December, a large fire is travelling in a south easterly direction towards Happy Valley township on Fraser Island. It is expected to impact Happy Valley township around 8pm. The fire is expected to have a significant IMPACT on the community.

Conditions are now very dangerous and firefighters may soon be unable to prevent the fire advancing. The fire may pose a threat to all lives directly in its path. Fire crews may not be able to protect your property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door: act now.

Power, water, and mobile phone service may be lost and road conditions may become very dangerous over the next several hours.

People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality.

Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe you are under threat.
