Yesterday I drove up to Newcastle and on arrival needed to go to the shops. Checked into Coles but then noticed everyone had masks on but not me - at the delicatessen I asked the server if I had done something wrong and he said that he should know but did not know if I needed one - bought about $50 worth of stuff, went through the checkout and no said anything. Hmmmm me thinks, I have been norty.
Back at my mums I check the regs - yep masks still required indoors if not your own house - yet in the ACT only required if in a health facility or public transport. No one asked me about a mask which I thought was odd.
However after thinking about it I guess the retail workers are worried about being abused if they challenge anyone - if I asked about the mask it would have been fine but no one did. Just highlights how having a system that relies on untrained retail workers to apply the rules is not workable - no one challenged me.
Also highlights the nonsense of having different rules across different jurisdictions.
