1. Yes, it's still Covid - that is why there was the commentary when Omicron emerged that it might be the way out of this pandemic because it was infectious but only created mild symptoms, so we all get it and gain some immunity without really high death rates.

2. I understood that mRNA is more effective against breakthrough infections with Omicron than AZ is - but AZ still protects against illness and death in any case.

3. Something to do with gaining the best attributes of both? AZ is effective for longer, mRNA more effective at the start.

It is not that simple - it never is!

But my understanding is that the protein sequence targetted by the mRNA vaccine is sufficiently similar to the Vaxzevria (A-Z) target to boost the immunity from the first two shots, but in addition promotes immunity to a slightly different sequence, and hopefully you end up with broader immunity.

I wonder what the real numbers of positive cases are??

I’ve kinda been ignoring it all…..but my wife now has it good and proper.

I was a way with work and got a text saying she developed a sore throat and was sent home from work…..this was on Thursday……before I got home she locked herself away downstairs. I disinfectant the house as I walked in. Seems to have worked so far. She has the trusty Engel Fridge.

I stopped at 8 places during my 5hr drive trying to purchase a RAT without luck.

My sons girlfriends family dropped one off…..and it return in invalid result

Was offered a different test kit through a friend of a friend…felt like a drug dealer picking up brown paper bags from letter boxes and leaving money.

Did the test Friday morning and it was positive.

I did a drive by of the PRC and the line up was long and the walk in one were already turning away people.

I’ve given up on finding a test, I’m currently feeling 100% no symptoms.

Wife has it bad……thankfully her doctor is phoning in twice per day……late yesterday/last night was Touch and go on whether we needed to seek medical help.

This morning she is feeling slightly better. She said this is the sickest she has ever been.

Wet tip of the day……..grab Difflam Plus…..it’s way better than the standard Difflam as it doesn’t give any relief.

Sooooo, back to numbers. My wife’s positive won’t be counted…….assuming she’ll shut the systems over the next week.

My guess would be atleast double what they are. Sooo many people with symptoms where i am on the mid NSW north coast can't get rapid tests, or get in to get pcr tests, crazy times.

What i shake my head about is hearing anti-vax-anti-esablishment-anti-society types commenting on social media and to others that if there are (say) 40 percent of unvaccinated people in ICU then that shows you are better off being unvaccinated. These are people who should not be allowed to ever look at statistics [emoji1787]. Actually it's sad but I do get angry that so many people sprout this sort of nonsense and wind each other into a frenzy. Thankfully we are talking only 3 or so percent of the population who are truly anti vax although (out of which only a small percentage would understand the stats, however most of them would not believe any government is telling the truth and giving real figures in any event). With the new rules of self testing and reporting if you have a positive result has seen Victoria's numbers to rocket to 51,000. and since you cant find a rapid test to buy the numbers are probably higher. To think back at the majority of Victorians did the hard yards and they right thing only to have some with the agender to sabotage the sacrifices we gave.

This omicron thingy from my limited understanding is following some sort of historical pattern where the pandemics become more contagious as they mutate but less dangerous until it becomes an 'endemic' or some such thing like the normal flu and other bugs that we just accept and live/deal with.

What if covid does a turn and the next variant is even more contagious than omicron and far more deadly than alpha and delta?

Everyone seems to be breathing a sigh of up coming relief because of the south african situation looking 'good' but we still have not had any positive, concrete, forward looking developments with regards to quarantine/emergency accomodation centres and boosting health centres/hospitals to cater for these events and other possible health disaster situations.

Quarantine is pretty much a waste of time from a containment perspective as the horse has well and truly bolted on the east coast at least. Most households that get a positive case will probably all get it because of the increased transmissability unless they are lucky enough to have a granny flat or similar. One of eldest daughter's mates was consigned to the horse truck for a week which did the trick (it does have accommodation facilities). The current outbreak started just prior to Christmas, if it were as as severe as Delta I would have expected to see ICU rates going through the roof instead of the modest increase we have seen. This is the latest ICU reporting I have seen and two thirds of those in ICU are unvaccinated Two thirds of ICU COVID patients unvaccinated as omicron charges on | Newcastle Herald | Newcastle, NSW Those figures would also have had a proportion of delta cases as well.

Based on experience around here most people seem to experience moderate symptoms for a few days and are then over it, a large number of the younger generation feel that it is better to get it and wear a week of isolation knowing they are unlikely to catch it again for a few months, from their perspective being a close contact and not getting it is worse as you still have to isolate so you might as well have a cold. This is an interesting turnaround from Delta where no one actually knew anyone who had got covid and the fear of the disease was much stronger.

So, all up probably not as bad as the doomsayers would have you believe.

Any mutate of this virus will kill my husband, even the flu. As we were told in 2020 by his doctor when this all started if he catches this he wont becoming out of the hospital due to him having MSA. There are a lot of people out there that are scared of catching this due to their heath situation. Also what gets my goat is people not wearing masks correctly, they just cover their mouth, I feel like say to people you do breathe through your nose so where do you think this virus is going to go, and people standing 2 inches from me I move and they follow me and 2 inch between us.

I reckon I know what you mean Heather if 'er indoors recent experience at the local Post Office is anything to go by.
Three people came in after her & stood close, deaf to her pointing out pleasantly (not wishing to start WW3) that they really should wear their masks correctly. A couple with just one strap/cord hanging down & the 3rd "claiming" to have an exemption (??) & all with takeaway coffee cups that they could have consumed out side before entering before fitting their masks correctly. The 3rd could have been a liar. She couldn't move as the desk is at the end of the counter so they moved up as she did. All were laughing & carrying on like Pork Chops as people tend to do when in a group when knowing they are wrong. She was greeted with "We know the law", odd that, as they were virtually mask less. The Postmaster normally a urinary wet type of person( I normally refer to him as a Pain in the arse". OK so I got my body parts slightly mixed up. could not be bothered entering into the conversation even though the PO had signs up.
Anyway she did all she could & got out asap.


But it does prove to us that some people don't really care & will contribute to this Business going on & on & on etc so long as they can have their own way.
