My wife has had a couple of the health care providers who would not except the Double Vax Cards that the doctor gave us which I laminated . I have A4 certificates from MyGov may just shrink them down until small enough to fit into my wallet & laminate . Our local bakery were we some times have morning tea always have different staff on so every time we go there I have to find it in my photo's. When I was trying to get into my MyGov a/c this morning they kept sending me a verification code but when I entered it they kept telling me it was incorrect, got through after about 6 attempts.
One of my kids got Covid at school - detected by the RAT provided by the school for bi-weekly testing, confirmed by a PCR test. She'd had the booster on the weekend but she obviously suspected that her symptoms weren't from that and did a RAT. She seems to feel OK, but I'm wondering if I can get hold of a pulse oximeter just in case.
So we're all now in quarantine for a week: 2 x full time workers, 2 x high school students and 1 x Uni student. But pretty seamless really - I've only been into my new offices a handful of times so it makes no difference to me and I've got a better screen at home in any case (49 inch ...), my wife got some documents and a laptop delivered from her office, the school still has it's LAAD arrangements in place and Uni hasn't gone back to full in-person teaching in any case.
And the dog's wondering why she's not getting to go for her daily walks.
This article summarises some of the reasons why there's been such a disparity in Victoria between the effect of Covid in public aged care and the private ones:
COVID Victoria: Why Victorian public aged care homes were spared the worst of coronavirus
Welcome to living with Covid, it's actually far worse to be a close contact..... We consider ourselves lucky that we all got it pretty much at the same time and didn't have cascading isolation periods like some people at work have had. Having a case changed my perspective on the usefulness of the isolation arrangements currently in place and with the availability of RAT tests its probably a better option to have close contacts test daily and if clear with no symptoms just go to work. There have been significant numbers of people at work who have had multiple isolation periods due to kids in daycare being designated close contacts (daycare operate under different rules to schools) and never testing positive, similarly multiple household members consistently testing negative and being forced off work for a week or more with no other transmission within the family when one member catches the covids.
Good luck and enjoy your week off, all our cases were mild and I hope you have a similar experience.
Regards,
Tote
Data from the ABS which confirms what many have suspected or known, and gives a good insight into why this scares the crap out of some people - whilst others can not see the cause for concern.
COVID-19 Mortality in Australia | Australian Bureau of Statistics
Covid is taking the lives of people with serious health issues. So far, 92% of all Covid deaths have on average 2-3 other underlying medical conditions, and 70% of these had pre-existing chronic conditions such as heart disease, dementia, diabetes and cancer. It is also disproportionally affecting the most disadvantaged.
But even then it is only 1% of all deaths in Australia since the pandemic started. Which means little to no change in overall mortality rates.
The lost opportunity for our politicians is to talk about what can we do to eliminate the underlying medical conditions (that impact the disadvantaged the most) so that something like Covid is not going to bring on these deaths in the first place.
Yes Covid is the trigger, but it is not what is loading the gun.
