Florida now has America's lowest COVID rate. Does Ron DeSantis deserve credit?

    Enjoy !
Florida might be low in some measures in the US only? "In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,641,304 confirmed COVID cases and 58,933 deaths. In the past seven days, on average, the state has added 113 deaths and 1,863 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data

Looks like they have 21.48 million people (2019) A few million below our national population. It would not be rough to compare perhaps? I wont. One thing is very clear. They have 59% fully vaccinated, according to the Mayo Clinic, We have 92% ( over 18) and over 12 rate is great here now.
They will have 60,000 dead from Covid in a week or two if they keep up. Then A Second wave will ....

Very happy my family is not living in Florida. Love to visit the place once this mess is fixed. It will be happily. Sub 7.5 % of the population to spread it here. The spread rate of vaccinated (r) is very low if they get covid despite the vaccine. The R rating of the Un Vaccinated crew is rather high!. It does change over time.

Anyone watching the Delta Doodrem come back tour ? Whoops I did it gain. Delta Plus I mean Not a lot of data yet. SCMP had -

WHO tracking Covid-19 ‘Delta Plus’, now in at least 42 countries

    • Some 93 per cent of all detected cases of the subvariant were in Britain
    • WHO reported Europe had the most Covid-19 cases, deaths over last wee

"Studies that examine how well our immune systems, primed by vaccines or past infections, fight off AY.4.2 could help answer that question, and scientists are also waiting to see if the pattern in the United Kingdom repeats if and when AY.4.2 establishes a beachhead in other countries.
To determine if AY.4.2 is indeed more transmissible, “you need to see the difference in more geographies, and is it sustained over a long period,” said Jeremy Kamil, a virologist at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport link

    "

The good news is "A leaked CDC internal report said the Delta variant was much more contagious than the common cold, the 1918 Spanish flu, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and may be as transmissible as chickenpox.
A preprint study from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences also found that viral loads of Delta infections are approximately 1,000 times higher than those caused by previous coronavirus variants.
Apart from being more infectious, the Delta variant could also be more deadly, several studies suggest.
A studyTrusted Source in Scotland found the Delta variant was twice as likely to lead to hospitalization.
Additionally, a cohort studyTrusted Source by Public Health England confirmed that among unvaccinated people, the Delta variant more than doubled the risk of hospitalization than the Alpha variant.
People also became more acutely ill with Delta-driven infections.

    "

Should not be much of a problem here for the 92.5% with high vax rates and if needed the 3rd dose starting already for many if they want/need it.

"Professor Kelly said people in phase 1a and 1b of the original vaccine rollout would be the first to get to the six-month mark since their second dose, and urged them to come forward."

The rest may/will be Jan 2022.

Apparently its also (take your pick):

    1. maybe
    2. will be
    3. might not be

6 months after the 2nd dose as well making it just that little bit more fun. Odd as I think demand will be manageable now with so many GPs finally helping out
Pfizer COVID vaccine booster shots recommended for Australians six months after second dose - ABC News
Many GP practices were not allowed to help at first not recalcitrant Doctors Perhaps they did not have as silly a practice manager?
It's all happening. I had my 3rd jab yesterday. Administratively its a bit more complex and at this stage a letter from the Dr is required to get it. I had AZ for the first 2, but the Dr was very specific in the booster being Pfizer or Moderna - I got Moderna. I just got it at the Pharmacy and it was very quick and easy to get the jab.
    Cheers

When looking at how good Florida's pandemic efforts are, it might be as well to remember that Florida is the state that fired the data scientist who refused to stop putting the case numbers on the health department's website - and then arrested her at gunpoint when she continued to publish them after losing her job.

Since this event last year, all of Florida's covid statistics have been under a cloud.

The reported deaths there over the last month or so maxed out one day at about 13. Most days have been less than 10, usually about 3.

In similar population states with similar new daily infections you'd expect 50 to 100 deaths a day. Something is wrong. Posted about this ages ago.

    Lies Lies and statistics perhaps?

Smug mug here. No power a very wide spread power issue stuffing up many vaccines at other places today. We lost the grid at 7.20am. I had batteries ready and 8 hours later my fridges are still full with vaccines from another Medical Centre and Pharmacy who are both still in the dark. Have to run back to count the tally for the week and count the vaccines I have left.

I know my batteries at work cost me a packet and are at times looking like a White Elephant. Today they look like the best Idea and money I have ever spent.

We did have to make a small sacrifice. Milk/lunch fridge was emptied for the the other places to stash a lot more than I could fit in my vaccine fridges

Sorry for the many people who coped a wack. Power has just come back on at home- No batteries here. Kids enjoyed the last day of home schooling with no phones or internet at all. Mobile service was very patchy as towers clearly lost power at lost of places as well.

My mobile is dead as the business phones diverted to it when the network was off. I could answer but the poor sod who often rang me several times plus in a row could not hear me at all due to the phone towers I think.

My vax clinic is done and dusted for the week. Doctors still jabbing a few stragglers.

Suspect a beer later will have me asleep on the couch - It was bloody loud with the wild night here.

Run to work for the COUNT then Cheers all. Have a great weekend
