Bad news is we now learn the real hospitalisation rate in NSW is 11%, not the 5% Gladys previously stated.
Ambulances are stacked outside hospitals, waiting up to 8 hours to admit their Covid patients.
At least 3 children are in ICU, including a baby, and about 2000 children have Covid.
And Gladys herself says the peak won't even be reached until October.
Epidemiologist Tony Blakely says NSW will hit àbout 3000 cases and Victoria 2000 by the first week in November.
So, if Sydney in particular only peaks in early November, it's hard to see cases falling to a level which would cause any state to lower its borders to NSW by Christmas, unfortunately.
Maybe some border zones might be reinstated, but if I lived in Sydney, I'd cancel any plans to go interstate for Christmas.

Can't help wondering if Glad will last that long?.

Yep, I can't see anyone from NSW or Vic being allowed anywhere outside their own States for ages yet - certainly early next year at least. I had to cancel my Tassie trip but we're all set to take off in Stan the Van for a few weeks when we're allowed out and about again down here - unfortunately I think half the State will have similar plans...

The birthday parties and other gatherings, using the plastic barriers as a table, make a mockery the isolation of Queensland and NSW, particularly when people from different sides of the border are hugging and kissing, sans masks .
I also saw people walking across the border, unchallenged, with the barriers barely an inconvenience.

...and 20 again in NZ. We've plateaued at 20 the last three days. Five of these were infectious in the community. Going to be a long rat-like tail... Testing numbers have fallen away and that is not good. Govt presser later this afternoon to announce any Alert Level changes. Auckland stays in Level 4 till next week anyway. Any change will be for the rest of us.

It would be interesting to know a little more background on the circumstances regarding the "holiday" given Qld's proclivity to shut borders and the Premiers warnings for Queenslanders to stay home I'm not sure I'd send my 3YO off to NSW for a holiday at that time even if it wasn't breaking any rules. Having said that we don't know the detail behind why the kid was sent down there which could range form nagging grandparents to family tensions at home. Or in a more fanciful scenario it could be a conspiracy by the Murdoch press, but I doubt that they are that organised.

And I see that the NSW Premier weighed in, as did Greg Hunt.

Yeah, saw that & said to indoors "WTF are they playing at, the stupid bastards! That is ridiculous, the border doesn't seem to exist although it could be the sort that they wrap up in the tablecloth & take home with them".

Who thinks up these ideas? No, a rhetorical question.
