No one is meaning that trout - you do need to stop twisting other peoples words. You and McGowan have a lot in common, and I admire you for your passion.

You only have to look at mobility data and the restrictions still in place in NSW and VIC to know we have not “let it rip”.

The good thing is now we will get to see if keeping borders closed does make a difference. It only took 1 case in the community for the NSW and VIC outbreaks to start.

Omicron has also made it into NZ - so will see how they go as well. They look to be ramping up restrictions quicker than WA has.

The only thing VIC and NSW could have done differently is we did not go back into lockdown. Perhaps that was a mistake and we will never know - but after 9 months in lockdown it was never going to be a palatable option in Melbourne.

The fact is, people are probably applying more restrictions themselves now anyway.

With family in Perth I am looking forward to seeing WA show us a better way.

Some results from some interesting research here in NZ.

Recycling PPE by disinfection. Masses of PPE gets chucked to waste or lost into the environment. They found UV worked on flat surfaces but not on the rough PPE surfaces. They found "...that with dry heat, complete virus inactivation was achieved at 65 degrees for 30 minutes or 70 degrees for 15 minutes."

Omicron has just breached our borders and looks set to take off in community transmission. We've had border cases but these have been contained. The latest outbreak cannot be traced back to any border case so is classed as community transmission. We went to "Red" setting over the weekend and masks are compulsory in many settings here now. Masks of any quality are now very hard to come by. What N95 and P2 masks you can find are inflating rapidly in price here and they've even sold out in two industry stores i usually shop at with the third restricting supplies to medical workers only. I currently have a system here where I have seven P2 masks, one for each day of the week and I usually store them in a paper bag between uses and hope that six days between uses is enough to let the bugs die. I wonder how accurate our oven is? I might even test the clothes dryer temperature. It has a stationary rack-dry function.

I am thinking that a recycled mask is a much better option than NO mask
I am hoping that NZ can contain/control the spread of this bastard virus so that it doesn't run amok like it has so far on the Eastern seaboard in Aus

    Our current setting is Red.

Life at Red | Unite against COVID-19

This is within the whole system based around the three lights of a traffic light system.

Traffic lights | Unite against COVID-19

We still have a lot of ability to conduct business with the mainstay of the structure based around vaccine status and crowd sizes based on vaccination of the collective group and other health measures.

Time will tell if it works. Basis of it all is still around suppressing or flattening the curve to reduce impact on the health system. No more talk of eradication for a while now. Our August Delta outbreak is now down to a rolling seven day average of 22 a day community cases. Omicron is door bashing though with a rolling seven day average at the border of 44. It was always a case of when not if.

So do I Trout. So do I.

I at least hope for a flatter curve than seen elsewhere. It is what it is. I don't think we can control it as we have with Delta but I hope we can slow it down. We are well into our 90s percentage wise for double vaccinations for 12+ with the kiddies 5-11 just starting, and currently something like 23% for booster shots.

I got the booster shot just over two weeks ago so it should have unfurled its array of chips by now and have fully logged into the system...

At the moment it feels a little bit like what the Joker said to Harvey Twoface in Batman.

“Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it! You know, I just... do things.”

Well except for long Covid, and maybe there are delayed effects we don't know about yet?

Looks like a number of doctors want the WA border opened on Feb 5th. Not sure if this is behind a paywall so maybe people can't see it, but anyway.

Doctors call for Premier Mark McGowan to stick to February 5 border reopening plan.

The petition the above is based upon is linked here WA Doctors supporting the opening of borders on February 5th 2022.

The beaut part about the internet is as we've see over the last 2 years, every second person who posts on facebook is a medical expert or a doctor.

Without any way to verify anything posted on change.org I'd be "quietly suspicious" and I put less credence in anything I read on SevenWest Media than in the posts in the conspiracy thread here, moreso when it's referencing the "facts" in a change.org petition.

    Journalism at its finest.
