Also a bit of a bugger if after having taken a snap of his handiwork to prove to his boss he'd done the job, then to drop his phone or camera.


But Kev just wasted a trip, the old lamp was still flashing. I know, I know it is changed on a routine basis, & there is probably another filament/"bulb" in parallel.


I would have thought they'd have to climb with a Buddy just in case Kev slipped up & had a heart attack who could at least got him slung onto a Chopper. By himself no way. But I dips me lid to anyone that can do that vertical climbing. stuff.
To do that, ideally they would need rescue harnesses fitted before they started the climb so a Chopper could immediately hook on to a Harness ring. I doubt the Drone in use could have got a cable to a "casualty"

A few years ago ABC. Ch2 & Ch. 9 were extending the Antenna section on two towers on Mt Lofty Summit. Dunno why, some improvement to coverage I suppose.


Inside, I wondered what the racket was that was going? Went outside just in time to see one of those huge Russian Multi Blade choppers removing the antenna sections. Hovered directly over the top of it with a cable attached while a gang of little black ants swarmed over the Tower to undo all the hold down bolts etc. 1/2 an hour later it was back again with a new longer section & this time positioned over the top again & delicately lowered itself so the black ants could bolt it in place. Later in the arvo they did the same for the Ch9 tower.

They didn't do Ch.10 so I assumed one of the new ones was shared.

The pilot looks straight down to the hook through a panel in the floor & had a separate panel of flight controls as he laid on the floor (so it was reported at the time) & I think GPS must have played a big part in the exercise as I could not detect any horizontal movement using binnys once the A/C was over the towers.


I think they were picking up & unloading the sections at the disused Eagle on the Hill Pub carpark area.

I did take some photos, from a distance obviously. Today I guess they would use an Ericson Sky Crane.
