My dad started going deaf at about 55 ( he was fifty years older than me) and he refused to do anything about it. He retreated further and further into isolation because he couldn’t communicate except through yelling. When I realised that I was going deaf at about the same age, hereditary and industrial, I was determined not to do the same thing. It isn’t fair to those around me. Of course it all was a waste of money because there’s nobody here talking to me now. 👍

Yes I reckon most get a tad bored with the yelling "WHAT? SPEAK UP WILL YER? TURN THE TELLY UP I CAN"T HEAR IT, etc Etc.

"CLOSE THE FRIDGE DOOR WHEN YOU SPEAK TO ME YER STANDING IN FRONT OF IT etc". or head in cupboard.

First thing I noticed when I got the ear trumpets was that the bloody birds wouldn’t shut up. Then it was Jan who couldn’t hear me 😂

And I was amazed by how loud the telly is on eleven.

I may have said this on another thread, the FIL was the best.

Some days he didnt put in his hearing aids, other days they were in.

He loved an argument, and would start one about what he "thought" he heard, but actually no one had said what he"thought" he had heard.

So he was actually arguing about something and no one knew what he was arguing about....

    All fun and games

Great guy,was in the war,at 90 decided he didn't want to be around anymore.

Coulda been my dad. Only my dad had a temper that you didn't expect. Like a grenade with the pin pulled, or a Nissan 3.0 litre TD.

If I rang to speak to mum I would dread him answering. He couldn't hear me over the phone, but I could hear him without it....

His birthday was Jan 2. He died at 93 on Jan 1. I can just hear him: 94? **** that! 26 years ago

Hey guys, this is the jokes thread, not the hearing aids thread.

    Lets stick to jokes.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

About the only thread on all AULRO that doesn't go off topic from time to time is the Word Association Game one.

The guys were discussing their vasectomy op prices and saying figures of $600, $700, $800, I told them mine cost $2000. Everyone wondered why mine was so expensive, so I checked my invoice, turns out it was for "micro" surgery.
