I left my OKA in Qld last year for about 6 months. Property owner kept poultry. You got chooks, you'll have rats. Bloody things got in, possibly where the steering column comes through the floor ( OKAs are primitive things ). Good thing I'm going to rewire the back part anyway..

Peppermint oil is great for the smell, and apparently drives them away, although I wouldn't bet on it.

Hmm, I wonder if my dishwasher gnawing rat was a homesick banana bender.

Actually, that stuff works out cheaper than the usual stuff. My house is old, and neighbours have chooks, so might be worth it to me. Although I reckon around 90% of homes would have rodents of some sort, mine is a bit like Topsy, plenty of places for 'em.

Tried that,didn't work here.

Some restaurants have a couple of strobe lights going at night after close of business,they say they keep them away.

On the property they always leave the lights on all the time in the shed where the vehicles and other farm equipment are parked,and that seems to work,they are very bright LEDs,same size as old type of Fluros.
And the "house dog ïs a foxy,so he gets onto them,the working dogs are in kennels every night.
The rats used to nest under the top mount intercooler of the Tojos and chew through the coolant hoses,änd wiring,but haven't done any damage to anything since the lights were installed a couple of years ago.

Someone told me that strobes worked on possums...... sure...

Oh, do NOT put the wax blocks into the cars .... they will then bring the mice/rats into the cars in search of the stuff (they love it). If there is rats, you will need to tie each block to brick. Rats will carrying an entire box of wax blocks away if they aren't tied down.....

Its probably best to put the wax blocks up int the top hat batton around the sheds where animals can't get to it ?..... but once again .... NOT inside the cars .... Yeah, guess how I know that one ........

I bet Possums will eat them as well.
I used some kind of blocks here once,and the possums had a party....

What i do with bait outside is put a handfull in an upside down jar lid,like one of those peanut butter container yellow lids,under an upside down plastic ice cream container with a brick on top.The ice cream container has a 32mm hole drilled in it at ground level,so the rats and mice can get in.
Possums have not been an issue,and i check the bait regularly and top up when necessary.
I have one permanently under the front of the car under the car port,because they once chewed the wires on the car.
The dog cannot get out to the carport so that is one less thing to worry about with the bait.

I know the pair of retrobates beneath the python.
My sister had a snake drop from the top of her laundry door, onto her head. It was an aptly named, crown snake, but still scared the bejesus out of her.

With the right bait these traps are great.

When the rat goes in and trips the trap it puts a ring around it's neck (the rings that are used for tail docking). Load it with a new ring and away you go as they don't usually get the chance to eat any of the bait.

I've used the mouse version multiple times when mice were in plague proportions in the chook run, the rat version has caught a couple of rats in the roof of the house.
