We're is the fridge thermostat? In the fridge or the freezer?

It seems like a lot of money given what a Dune/Kings/Brass Monkey fridge costs.

I have an old Engel here that is either low on gas or the insulation has broken down, it was running, but using a lot of power last time I used it.
Your welcome to it if you want to try and gut it for the refrigeration side.

    Tony
The Isotherm can't go in the freezer. Although the freezer doesn't freeze as well as we would like, for the short term that we use the caravan this is not a major problem.

My issue is the fridge. If it went in the freezer there would be no improvement in the fridge. Also the freezer size is borderline for our requirements, so this would reduce its size.

The Isotherm has a separate thermostat that can be mounted in the fridge or external.

As for being a lot of money, yes it is, but I am prepared to spend it for a good result.

However, after reading all the contributions here, as well as doing more searching I have changed tack.

As I mentioned earlier that to fit any other fridge would require a lot of cabinet and couch modifications.

After finding the perfect compressor fridge for our needs, I have decided to go this way. I figure the caravan mods won't be much more work than fitting the Isotherm.

By going this way I get a bigger freezer. Not a cheap fridge, but if it does the job, and I am sure that it will, I can wear the cost. It is rated to 43 degrees and has a fairly modest current draw.

The POS fridge that is coming out almost cost the same 11 years ago.

I did not pay the RRP. I did get a reasonable deal. And you wouldn't believe it. The fridge is 10mm too wide to fit through the door, so I will remove a window.

EDIT. I was just re-reading this thread and I noticed that Pedro has a Bushman and rekons it is superior. This reinforces my decision.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

could you canabalise one of the smaller car console fridge/freezer units and set it up in the freezer compartment? Run that to make the freezer only cold and let the rest of the system work as intended?

Im assuming that your fridge/freezer works on the same generic principle of it makes the freezer cold then lets air circulation deal with making the fridge cold
Nothing like it Dave. In a conventional fridge, as you would know, the part in the fridge that gets cold is the evaporator.

In this fridge, the evaporator is just a heap of aluminum fins that transfer the cold from a pipe that runs behind it.

It is about 20 mm pipe that starts at the freezer and then goes to the fridge. So by the time it gets to the fridge, a lot of cold is lost to the freezer.

If you remove the fins this what is behind them.

Now have fridge running in my shed. When the time comes to install, it will easily fit through the caravan door with fridge doors removed.
