Had a play with the mig today

Hey Loaded Disco.
Dont get down on yourself man.
Talk to any of those tool shops,they sell a cartridge gas setup for migs,much better than paying big $$$$ for gassless mig wire.I bet it works out OK compared to hiring a bottle.
Bugga is I have to hire 2,1 for the mig and 1 for the Beer fridge.BUGGA

Thanks for the info I have never heard of this set up, I will have to go and investigate. Should I go to BOC or do some where like Bunnings have them.

If you cann't afford a mig welder try an Inverter Welder, like a stick but uses direct current, welds go on like laying plasticine along the gap.

Funny this. I'm looking at doing the same, making a rear bar and then doing sliders for the body. Thinking about using tubular steel instead, two bars if I can fit them above the tow hitch (I've also got the body lift). Backing plate of some flat steel in vital areas and fit some LED light clusters to keep it legal.

Rock sliders I'm not sure about square section or tube, thinking square will be easier to manufacture but tube gives me the option to put some bends in.

You need both square for under and around the sill and tube off the square for gully fenders and to step on.

Got all the welding and grinding done today,looks pretty good.Got to sort some lights out,its possible to use the originals but a lot of hard work.Then paint it and fit it up.

Hey I managed to retrain myself when the word fat was mentioned

I took the toy beach fishing with sith today i was really surprised to see how well a defender goes in the sand (white poweder stuff) when compared to my 87 rangie or the 98 disco I have, it seemed to just glide over it..well impressed..

Landyandy looking at the bar looks the same as the bar Phil and i built for my D2, the lights i decided on were Pajero bumper lights at $80 a pair, trying to fit the Disco lights is pert near impossible, one other set of lights i was looking at are the Disco1 rears and LEDs.

This is what the Pajero lights look like when in.

These are the holes for the Pajero lights, if you try to fit the standard Disco lights you'll need to make a large access hole in the back to either replace bulbs or get to the release the holding clips.

The LEDs would be the easiest as they are slim and wouldn't stick out that much.
