There was a flicker of hope.

It’s been a while since I’ve bought something that could be faulty but I did it today.

I bought a new PVR, got it home, unpacked it and picked it up.

It rattled. Sounded like there was a couple of screws floating around inside.

I took it back and the retailer (JB HiFi) happily replaced it. They were quite good about it.

I have to say I've had a couple of dicey purchases with that vendor. I suspect they know they're selling stuff that skirts the edges of quality control because I've never had so much as a question when I've gone to exchange a purchase for one that works and/or doesn't rattle. I've never had pause to question their customer service.

See? Already the word has got around like, "Don't' mess with this guy or he'll have your guts for garters"

Not exactly faulty "goods", but same principle.

A few weeks ago I was getting a load of wood in the 2a, and noticed a back tyre was rather low. So I pumped it up. A day later I went to use it, and found the tyre was flat. So I put the spare on, and put the flat one in the back of the County to take into town last Tuesday. I took it to the tyre place first thing in town, and went back to pick it up on the way home at lunchtime.

"Couldn't find anything wrong with it, must have been a loose valve. No charge".

Wednesday morning, went to take it out of the County, and realised it was dead flat again. So left it there and took it in this morning. Again, back at lunchtime to pick it up. This time they said they found and fixed a puncture. No charge. I said I hoped I would not be back with it again next week, and the woman on the desk said if that happens she is going to shoot the bloke who said he fixed it. I hope that was a figure of speech.I

don't know if others have noticed this, but the tubes you can buy today seem to have a maximum life of about two years before becoming porous. I have replaced about six of these in the last two years. I have tyres on equipment on the farm here that are still holding air at over thirty, some of them the same size as the ones on my vehicles.

I don't know what type of "rubber" they use but the old standby puncture repair of a patch you set alight no longer work. They just don't stick (vulcanise?) to modern tubes.

Sounds like the issue is a change in rubber composition.
