    ENOUGH!!!!

Will the moderator please ban all future "which oil ?" posts please.
    5 million are enough.
I doubt anyone on here has ever been able to run 2 TD5s until worn out to know which oil is best.
A quick google of any oil company site will give a good guide of what oil is suitable , backed at least by reference to motor manufacturer specs. And this under pain of being sued if oil caused a problem.

AND I do not think I have ever seen a post where oil failure has destroyed a TD5.
    Regards Philip A

A lot depends on what you are doing. As pointed out you also need to look at time periods as well and as stated no more than 12 months.
Personally I do my oil every 5000kms as it is cheap insurance using Penrite Diesel HPR5. On occasion it does go out to 8000 or 10000 depending on what is going on. At 5000 it gives me breathing space should delays occur. But as said 10000 is fine also and I do filters in this change as well.
Then there are other issues to consider, how much 4wdriving have you been doing, have you been doing a lot of towing, driving in water or dust or mud etc. All these things will have a bearing on how often your oils should be changed.
Interesting to read Ricks opinion on Delo400 as that can be obtained for a good price in 20 litre and 200 litre drums and is what my BIL uses on all his vehicles, tractors etc and he is a diesel mechanic. I would have thought this would have been a bit heavy, but definitely worth considering.

Phil what is the issue. Someone is asking a question, so what. If you are seriously not interested or upset by this and not just having a laugh then just do not read the post or comment on it. It is that easy. It is just recommendations and we all need to learn from somewhere. Also specs change to so product recommendations change, just look at the ATF / MTF in gearbox issues. Also the search function often is not user friendly and brings up everything but what you are looking for so a little compassion is in order.

IMHO, all these posts do is give people a chance to ride their particular hobby horse.
Contrary to most posts which can give FACTUAL information or experience eg anyone got a wiring diagram, why won't my central locking work, these posts are almost entirely opinions based on virtually nothing, with the exception of the posts made by oil experts.

The only experience on oil would be eg "my engine only lasted 100KK using x oil, and it was attributed by experts to the oil breaking down." Experience saying I use this oil and it is good really mean very little as this really applies to any oil.

I have been guilty myself as I reported that I started using 15-40 and the consumption was the same as 20-50, but these are within the spec and it was a surprising result being the opposite of what was expected. However later changes have really questioned this so now I do not really know.

ANY modern oil recommended by an oil manufacturer if changed within car maker recommendations would let the car run for its design life. To be safe change twice as often as it is cheap insurance.

BUT I wonder what the liability would be if recommendations were given outside manufacturer specification that actually CAUSED a problem.eg recommending say Penrite 30-70 or whatever, which is WAY outside the manufacturer recommendation. Would the poster be liable??? In my experience oil companies never recommend oils outsid eof Manufacturers spec eg Castrol says Go to BMW for M3 Diff oil even thoug they make it. Ditto Honda Jazz gearbox oil.

I had a search about MTF and found the most recent post recommending Syntrans 75W /85. Guess what the Castrol site would have shown if 5 minutes were spent googling.

    Manual TransmissionCASTROL SYNTRANS 75W/85
A full synthetic SAE 75W/85 manual transmission fluid with superior synchroniser performance.
